Good morning,
We are a "New Hire" family from the USA and our projected date to arrive in Dhahran is late July. Our options for flying into Dammam as I see it are either KLM or Lufthansa. Here is the problem. We have a dog who we plan to bring with us but KLM has a "pet embargo" in effect from May 15 - Sep 15 so we can not bring the dog on KLM either as checked luggage or cargo. My understanding is that this "pet embargo" policy during the summer is a recent development. Lufthansa will allow dogs but the flight from Germany to Dammam is flown by their Code share partner ( Privatair ), which does not allow dogs period.
Question: Does any one have any recent experience / success with bringing their pet over with them as checked luggage or as cargo after May 15? Does any one have any ideas / info about other airlines that fly directly into Dammam and will allow pets as checked luggage in late July? Any insight or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Another new hire contacted KLM and they are bringing their dog over in June. Just know that pet embargo has been around for many years. The plane sitting on the tarmac gets very, very hot in the summer.

o again. I just got an update after speaking with KLM Cargo. The "pet embargo" only applies if you are trying to transport your pet as checked luggage and is in effect May - Sep. If you 1) use a pet shipping company and 2) transport your pet as cargo, KLM seems to have no issue with moving your pet during the summer. The final issue to be resolved will be to determine if an Iqama is required in order to do this if our pet is traveling as cargo on the same aircraft as we are. More to follow.

KLM does not have a pet embargo, the issue I had was the KLM/Air France/Delta phone is answered by Delta employees who look at the Delta rules that show there is a pet embargo. I was advised by the pet re-locator to ask for a supervisor, explain the situation and when I did this they reviewed all rules and found the is no embargo on KLM. Our pet is now booked on a KLM in early June. Some advantages of the KLM flight through Amsterdam is that our dog gets a 'day care' break in Amsterdam before boarding direct flight that and lands at night so the temperatures will be cooler. I believe some AMS-DMM flights are not direct so check the KLM schedule.

FROMCALGARY2,
Are you required to have your IQAMA in order to bring your pet into KSA as cargo? Also, I see you mentioned that you are using a pet shipping company so I am assuming you are shipping your pet as cargo on KLM. Would you mind sending a PM to me with a ball park figure on what the pet shipping company is charging? I just got a quote from one company that seems ridiculously high. Thanks.

The company I am using to do paperwork for my cat from UK is asking for iqama prior to getting import permit. Can you tell me the agent you used that managed to get the import permit without an iqama. Thanks.
