Just a question for all those who have been-there/done-that:
When you come back each year for repat visits...Do you travel with Dish Barrel Boxes (so as to stock up on next year's kid stuff, etc?
Do you just come with empty boxes from KSA and fill-up in home country? Or do you bring them full with things from KSA to bring back to country? Or do you just buy new boxes on each repat visit?
Thank you so much....just trying to figure out the logistics of our new life (arriving in KSA this summer, yahoo!)
Thank tons! This forum has been so helpful...thank you to everyone!!!

What we do is pack all our clothes and gifts in our carry-on bags and 2 large suitcases for traveling TO the USA. When we return, we bring back all those bags plus dish barrel boxes for the remaining luggage allowance.
You can order the dish barrel boxes from the U-Haul website and get free shipping, and they always arrive within 2-3 days. We always cut down the boxes a bit when we pack for two reasons: 1. they are slightly over the airline dimensions, so technically oversized, and 2. we only fill to 50 lb to avoid overweight fees, so cutting them down ensures we don't have extra space.

I've tried to save my boxes that I brought from the USA, but they always seem to fall apart somehow. Water, torn, stepped on etc. while storing here. I just buy new boxes every time I go to the states. They are relatively cheap.
I always cut down my boxes. I know many folks have posted that they don't and never have a problem, but I am super paranoid about arriving at the airport and being charged for oversize or worse being denied accepting my boxes altogether. That's just me.
That being said, dish barrel boxes are the best thing out there. I travel to the states with just a carry on and bring back two dish barrel boxes with me.

We brought lots of souvenirs from KSA to USA last time, which took up a lot of suitcase space, yet we basically only packed two sets of clothes each for the kids and no extra shoes. We went shopping right away to buy next year's "school" clothes and shoes, which worked out season-wise, since it was summer in the US and the kids' summer clothes were on clearance. We filled the suitcases for the return trip with all new kids' clothes, even underwear and socks -- they are picky on brands and styles. Also brought Dish Barrel Boxes filled with household items, small 110v appliances, backpacks, things like that. Our strategy was travel light on the way there, dump off the heavy souvenir stuff, and then pack heavy for the return. We were still within our allotment for baggage. We bought the U-Haul Dish Barrel Boxes at a location near one of our stays in the States. I didn't know they would deliver them...good info for next time.

This was me. I cut ours down too. I needed as little stress at the airport as possible. When we arrived at the airport we knew our boxes were within the size and weight allowed. She didn't even measure, but what if....
