Is there an allowance for staff who live in RT and commute to work in DH? If so, how much is the allowance? Is it based on GC/nationality?
How much is the rental assistance allowance if staff choose to live off-camp? Does one need to obtain prior approval to move off-camp? Is the amount of the rental assistance allowance based on GC/nationality?

The commuting allowance will depend on which department you are in but it works to a rate of an hour's pay for every day that you are commuting for that month.
As far as living off camp is concerned, you are eligible for an allowance of 3 x monthly base salary to a maximum of 120,000 SAR. There is also an extra allowance for some payrolls and starts at 60,000 to a maximum of 80,000 depending on how many children you have. Most compounds begin around 200,000 SAR per year, payable in advance. (You pay and Aramco refunds). Management doesn't accept 6-monthly contracts (we've tried). The popular compounds are very hard to get onto as companies pay rent for years and keep them empty in-between employees. Utility bills are on top of the rent (usually). You will not be able to use the SAMSO facilities if you live off-camp if you are non-Saudi, although you will be reimbursed for any medical treatment at any of the private providers.
Hope this helps.

And just to answer another of your questions, yes you have to request to move off camp -otherwise how would they know to pay you the Rental Assistance Allowance?
Based on info given in other threads, the additional allowance mentioned by waywood is for Dhahran residents only.

@grove Wanderer - when we were considering moving from RT to a compound in Khobar, HR in Dhahran (where my husband works) confirmed that the extra allowance was available to us as well. This was in August '12.

Sorry, I should have been more precise in my language. The actual announcement about the additional allowance was addressed:
Since as you said, your husband was working in Dhahran but living in Ras Tanura then yes, it would apply.

I do have a query on the same thread. I will be joining ARAMCO by the end of this month with my wife. My department is EXPEC ARC, DH and housing is at ABQ camp. I was not aware of commuter allowance while accepting the offer. So I did not make sure about this with HR that time. It is neither mentioned in my offer letter as well. Some information on this will be much appreciated. Is it based on one's nationality (I am an Indian)?

Hi, I received an offer letter and will start soon. Is the commuting allowance dependent upon the marital status? Are the singles residing in Abqaiq and working in Dhahran eligible to receive this commuting allowance? Thanks

No, it is not based on nationality. The commuting allowance will be dependent of approval from the dept head (manager) so that could be why it is not mentioned in the offer letter. Once you receive approval, then you will get the allowance.
