Hi
Wondering if someone would share their similar experience or in the same boat as myself
I am arriving in Saudi family status on May 10th Insh- and have initiated discussions with ASC in Houston to help me point me to right directions to bring my wife sooner than later. I am a canadian citizen and she is a Bangladeshi citizen (no PR Card as of yet- in process). Anyone in similar situation on how long it took them to bring their family. I dont want to lose my family status if she can not join me in 3 months time and I know I have to wait until I get Iqama , registered in Saudi council of engineers etc. Medical clearance has been performed for my wife but she will be getting her visa at Saudi embassy in Bangladesh.
Thanks

Although I did not encounter similar experience but your case should not be dissimilar to others, like those couples who are of same nationality, if all goes well you can bring your wife within two months...as soon as you have your iqama, you can apply for your family's visa and endorsement should not take more than two weeks, add a week for journey scheduling,...I hope so...All the best

Thank you MABM for the reply.
Any other cases with married couples that are of different nationalities ? Also searched the process for registering with the Saudi Council of Engineers...anyone with insights to this ?
regards,

Did Aramco ask you to register yourself for SCE? I thoughts its not required for Govt. Organization like Aramco Although I have registered with SCE from my past job.
The procedure is that you first create your profile online(Basic Engineering. The one with Least Fee), register your mobile number, once you receive the SMS, go to their office pay the money, and with in couple of days you get their letter.
Be careful about your information on how you enter, you cannot go back to last step, you cannot edit once you have move to next step...
All the best

Just curious. What happens to the employee who goes there as a single with US citizenship and get's married in his home country (For example, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan) ? Will he never be able to bring his spouse if he has a grade code above 13 ? What makes the difference ? Or of someone doesn't want to bring his spouse immediately ? What is the pros and cons ?

An employee on Single status who gets married and is GC 11 or above, will work with HR to make the change to married status and bring their new wife in. She will have to go through the medical clearance.
A Bachelor Status employee gets additional time off for visiting back with family, although all but one of those trips will be at his own expense.

On one other point you mention, it is completely up to you whether you want to bring your new wife over immediately or not.
As for the pros and cons, I would say that is mostly a personal matter. The company policies regarding bringing your wife over are mostly the same, whenever you do it.
Although, now that I think about it, with the current status of family housing there might be an issue regarding the availability of family accommodation. As far as I know, it's not usually a problem if you're GC 11+ US/C payroll however.

I am glad to see many are on the same boat. Just to caution you with some of the experiences you are having that I have learned over the past week while in Saudi is:
1. Bringing wife of different citizenship will not be helped by the ASC as it is not in their policy. All they will do is clear the medical clearance. 2. Transparency can sometimes be an issue and ASC will not do anything until you arrive in the kingdom such as attesting educational degree etc . This was not communicated in black and white before the fact to me.I was given family status, family housing but no family to accompany me. 3. Do not anticipate bringing the wife as a resident immediately your arrival. 4-5 months as a must to be allowed. Ramadan timings in government are 10-1 usually which delays processing further 4. You can gamble bringing her as a visitor but with hefty fines if they over stay the 90 days allowed and can only be extended 3 months max and in the meantime if you convert to residency it will be great otherwise, process starts all over. 5. You have to work with HR personally by bugging someone everyday to show your persistence. Do not assume things will be done for you. Get your supervisors help and the division manager to push things.

You hold a Canadian passport and your wife and children hold Bangladeshi passports. Can you show your wife and children as dependents while filing for tax return for Canada or USA (for example, in my case) ? Assume that they never traveled to Canada/USA.

You will have to refer this question to a tax accountant / professional. You can PM me for some Calgary based accountants I use to file my Non resident taxes.
