Dry cat food has been increasingly harder to find in the DH commissary and nearby hypermarkets. Does anyone know why it's been disappearing off shelves? Any tips as to where to find it? Looking for standard issue Purina or Meow Mix. Does it have anything to do with pet food recalls in US, maybe a trickle down effect for exports?

We have the same problem as you. The wet cat food is really inconvenient. I found an article about the recall in the U.S. (see below). Not sure if this is the reason or not.

P&G's Natura unit expands recall of dry pet foods
Procter & Gamble Co.'s /quotes/zigman/238894/quotes/nls/pg PG +0.51% Natura Pet Products business is voluntarily expanding its recall of dry pet food to include dry cat food and cat pet treats because it has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella.
No salmonella-related illnesses have been confirmed to date.
Natura, which first unveiled a recall of certain lots of its dry pet food last week, said sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of salmonella in additional dry cat food and a cat pet treat. The company is recalling products made in the surrounding timeframe. No canned wet food is affected by the recall.
These affected products were sold through veterinary clinics and select pet-specialty retailers in the U.S., Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and Costa Rica, as well as online.
The dry cat food affected by the recall has expiration dates ranging from Jan. 1, 2014, to March 24, 2014. The dry cat treats have expiration dates from July 1, 2013, to September, 27 2013.
Salmonella can affect animals eating the products, and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they haven't thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
The company said pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appee, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
Natura recommended that customers whose pets have consumed the recalled products and have these symptoms contact their veterinarians. For further information or a product replacement or refund, customers can call Natura at 800-224-6123.

Bahrain still has dry cat food. I bought two large bags from Carrefour in the City Center Mall.

o,
I'm wondering about the current state of finding dry cat food? Is it currently pretty easy to find? Is there a variety of types? Where do people typically find it? And is it sometimes/often out of stock? Thank you!
<update: you can find whiskas brand easily. You can get Royal Canin from a pet store in the small mall near ikea.>

Thank you for the response.
For one of them, surgery was recommended to seal up a hole where she has a missing or chipped tooth. We didn't go through with it, but I wonder if she should get that done soon in case we go. However, I hope that wouldn't make things worse for enabling her to come, and I wonder if it could wait until it seems more obviously needed. I wonder if the vet care in the Dhahran area is pretty good and English-speaking? I might have seen somewhere that there is a vet clinic on the compound?
Thank you -

The vets in Aramco are very good. They take excellent care of our pets. Some people go into the local community and also receive good care for their pets from the vets they choose. And yes they do speak English.
Everyone who has a pet in an Aramco Community are required to join the Kennel Club.
