o Aramco Expats- I am still under process and should be there soon. I searched the forum for discussion around maternity and parental leaves. What is the policy on these ? I am expecting my first born in around November so any heads up for a good planning would be appreciated. Also, which hospital is the best for deliveries and do they have private rooms or semi private rooms etc ? Thanks,

Aramco only has one hospital in Dhahran.
Hopefully someone on the forum who have had children here can answer your other questions.

According to the IR Manual for US/C and UK payrolls, a male employee may be awarded one day of leave for the birth of a child. This is not automatic, it requires approval by a minimum of Division head in your organization. I am not sure if it is the same for other payrolls but I suspect it is.
There is no mention that I can see about maternity leave for female employees [Edit: in those two manuals] but a lady in my dept was off for about a month when she had a baby recently.

The maternity leave for female employees is 10 weeks, unless it's been recently changed. Husbands can usually take off a day or two, and that is probably at the discretion of his department. You could then plan to have your vacation at that time. My husband simply told his boss when I was due and that he was planning to take vacation as soon as the baby is born. It wasn't a problem. I delivered 2 babies in Aramco Dhahran Hospital, and I delivered my third in the US in a regular hospital. Overall, I liked delivering in Dhahran more, and I will not go through the trouble to go back to the US to deliver again. I have heard that SAAD hospital has more options for natural childbirth than Aramco, like I heard they do waterbirths, but I don't know anyone who has had a waterbirth there, so you would have to call and talk with them if that's something your wife wants. But, natural childbirth can be done in Aramco too. They will generally work with you and let you make some requests, however you have to remember that it is a hospital, not a birthing center, so they are used to medicalized births. I had all of my babies naturally without pain medication, so if that's something your wife is interested in and would like support or advice, she is most welcome to email me at ummriyam@gmail.comThere is also someone in Dhahran giving childbirth classes which is a great opportunity if you can do it.
