We are packing up out home, closing down my business, selling all our possessions that we don't want to bring with us. Moving pianos and safes to the basement. So the one thing I thought I had handled and would not cause any issues was the shipping of my animals ( two dogs) to KSA. Well I was mistaken. My pet relocation specialist called and informed me that the KSA is now requiring a copy of the owners iqama in hand prior to shipping the animals. Now if i was traveling a head of my wife this would not be any problem however we are planning on traveling together. ( me going ahead is not really an option at this stage as we have sold all our furniture and vehicles) Has anyone ran across this situation before, I'm all ears to any suggestions anyone might have. At this point all I can do is try to find a long term boarding kennel.
Thanks Ben

If true, this is a concern to us as well. We thought we we had everything in hand and just need the Import permit which is applied for closer to the actual departure date.
I know the Saudi Arabian embassy in Canada say on their web site to submit a copy of the Iqama with the request for legalization of the documents but they did for us with a copy of the temporary work visa issued for our entry.
At what stage did the relocation advisor say you needed to provide the Iqama ?
Thanks

Can't speak to north of the border. This literally sprung up on us within the last few days. The pet relocator says that up until about a week ago they were able to get the permits, authorization etc with a copy of the employees passport page. NOW they want the iqama. I've also called (3) different locators and gotten the same story. We are not due to depart until end of May but is permit time it's here. Frustrating is the nicest thing I can think of to say at the moment. Evidently they rules change with the breeze as far as pet imports are concerned. If anyone hears anything differently I would appreciate an update.

I wanted to update the board as this is getting more complicated by the minute. First off we are shipping out dogs thru a pet carrier (Pet Relocator Service). We thought this was the easiest due to the volumes of paperwork required. Here is the list required as of 4/10/13 in order to have your dogs "shipped" to the KSA.
For your knowledge, I’m going to need to get an import permit for your pets and several things will be needed. See list below;
1.) A COPY of their recent Rabies vaccination records. Each pet will need to travel with a "Rabies Certificate" with microchip numbers showing and your vets signature. The vaccines are REQUIRED to be older than 30 days ago but also LESS than 1 Year. **Note – Each certificate must be signed by the vet in INK pen (no electronic signatures allowed) and show their microchip numbers. These ORIGINAL forms will be part of the paperwork that goes to the USDA office and to DC so keep them handy. I will only need a fax or email copy to obtain their permits and when ever you have these available.
2.) A COPY of their last Distemper combo vaccines given (DHLPP). Microchip numbers must be shown and vet signature in place same as above. The ORIGINAL document will stay with the above Rabies Certificates for further use and travel.
3.) Copy of your Passport Photo page along with entry visa stamp from KSA.
4.) Copy of owners Saudi Arabia residence permit (Iqama).
5.) Authorization letters - template provided by our partner agency in Riyadh. These will need to be stamped by the employer in SA and by the Chamber of Commerce. Original letters need to be posted to our Riyadh office.
6.) A Copy of their health certificate which I'll be walking you through organizing with your vets office next.
The issue seems to be that they can obtain the permit with a pass port page and a copy of your entry visa. The issue is on the Saudi arrival with the iqama.
..............Too be continued.............

Hi, have you tried contacting the Ministry of Agriculture at the Dammam airport directly, to ask them about this new issue? I recommend calling them, and hear first hand how they recommend new Aramco employees handle the issue regarding iqama supposedly needed for pet importation now. Perhaps they have a workaround, such as seeing an official letter from your new employer, along with the passport/visa stamps. I would not take it at the word of the pet relocation companies you have spoken with -- I'd go directly to the ministry that handles pet arrivals at the quarantine area at the airport and ask myself. You can google their number. Country code is 966. Just my thoughts.

.........Continued.......... Ladies and Gentlemen, This nightmare is now official. I've verified with both the ministry in Dammam and Riyadh. If you are shipping your dogs via cargo you must have your iqama in hand before they will be allowed to clear customs. UNBELIEVABLE. So my hope in posting this is to inform any family that may be considering shipping your pets via a pet relocation service to please plan accordingly. Too late for us but hopefully someone else can benefit from this post and same some stress. I apologize but I did not ask if the iqama is required if you are traveling with your animals. Thanks to all to contributing to this post both on the forum and off. Ben
