Topic moved to correct discussion group: Re: Married Female w/o Children - Anyone else? by LS01 » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:42 am
Hi everyone!
Me and my husband have been living in Dhahran since November last year now and I am not working, so would like to meet similar ladies like me and joing Women's Group - how could I contact it or find it? I would be very grateful if anyone could help me to meet some new friends and join any activities - I don't mind volunteering
Thank you

Hi there. I will also be moving to Dharan this coming July. I have no children and would love to meet other women as well. Look forward to meeting you.

Will you be in DHA or the Local Dhahran Compound (LDC: Rakkah)?

We've been told LDC. My husband is upstream engineer GC14. I'm just hoping to not be too isolated.

You will enjoy living in the LDC. You can see a link to pictures under the Discussion Group: Living in Aramco Communities: Living in Rakkah.
The families already living there do like it. More are moving in every week. You will not be isolated at all.

Update-we just finished visa medical here in Houston & went through orientation again. This time the focus was on Rakah, however, our relocation advisor told us we were still slated for main camp Dhahran.

Housing assignments are usually made the week of your arrival, many times 2 or 3 days before you are expected to arrive.
ARAMCO does try to project where the house you are eligible for will be available when you arrive. Most of the time they are pretty accurate, occasionally for whatever reason, it is not and a change is made to where a housing assignment is located.
I am sure your offer stated something regarding depending on availability when it stated housing.
The relocation agent was probably calling Dhahran camp the main camp Dhahran (compared to the LDC - local DHA compound: Rakkah) but there is an area of DHA called within DHA: Main Camp and The Hills. I would think your relocation guide just means DHA camp when she is talking and not meaning the area of the DHA camp. But that is just a guess.
Housing is still being assigned to DHA when housing is available.
All housing assignments are subject to availability.

You cannot come expecting to get a job, but the wives in Dhahran who want to work do eventually get jobs. It takes patience.
Under this discussion group is a partial list of activity groups in Dhahran. That will give you a good idea what the ladies do with and without children.
You will have to learn to say no.
