The choice to wear a head cover is yours on the compound, but you may feel pressure from other Muslim women to wear one here. Abayas do not have to be worn on the compound either, but again you might possibly receive pressure to do so from others who do. There are Muslim women in the Women's group who wear a scarf and conservative western dress on camp. It will be your choice though, no matter what others' opinions are on the matter.
Out in the local community, in particular Khobar, the choice to wear those 2 are a choice you will make for yourself. Some here in the forum feel it is necessary, others do not. There are a few who dress conservatively and go out to eat, shop, etc. In other parts of the kingdom where they are not used to having Westerners around, you would wear an abaya and possibly a scarf. You would need to wear them to go to mosque for prayer, I don't know if they are required in the mosques here on camp.
I do have a couple of Muslim friends who do not cover their heads or wear an abaya. But they have spoken of the pressure put on them by others. They are comfortable dressing the way they wish in spite of it.
