A question for the electricians (or electrically minded) out there: Are the light switches in houses provided with neutrals, or is the neutral wire used for hot return? In other words, are there two, 2-conductor wires (plus ground) to every switch, or just one?
I ask because (geek alert) I have computer-controlled lighting at home, and was thinking of bringing it with me (assuming I pass the contingencies, of course). Those switches require hot, neutral, and ground at the switch, and older houses (at least, in the US) sometimes have just the one wire. (Newer houses, if code-compliant, have two.)
Thanks to anyone who can help. I'd rather not replace the switches in my house, here, if its unlikely that the wiring in Dhahran would support their use.
Thanks, CP
