Hi all,
I have been offered a place and I'm currently going through the background checks etc. I have a few questions which I hope the existing employee can answer?
1) I know some cases where people get offers from Saudi Arabia, they end up waiting for a long time. Although I don't plan to resign at my current place until I have the abosulute assurance, I was just wondering that when is the best time to hand your notice in? If you have to wait for more time after leaving your current job, do you get paid for that period by Aramco or you only get paid for the period after you join?
2) I know a stupid question - but are women allowed to drive within Dhahran - i.e. just within the community and to the local shops etc.
3) My wife is expecting in August (during Ramadan). Although looking at the waiting times I dont expect to get there by then but if I do arrive lets say by June or July, then would I be allowed to go back for lets say a week or two help my wife with the delivery?
4)We are planning for my family to arrive after the birth of the child so that we can get the British passport etc for the baby before they come. Do I need to specify it to someone at the VISA stage that we are expecting another dependent? Is it east to apply for all dependents together or I can apply for my wife now and then apply for our baby?
5) I understand that there is an annual holiday which is compulsory to take at the end of the year. Are you allowed to take your other holidays before end of the year to visit your home country etc (on your own expence obviously)
6) Does Aramco keep your passport? How do you travel to your own country (i.e. do you have to request for your passport back every time you want to visit another country)? What about random weekend visit to Dubai etc?
7) With a young family, we were hoping to get domestic help as soon as we get there. Is it something which we can get quickly or you may have to wait long before you can get someone to work for you?
8) Are you allowed to bring a maid with you?
I will probably have many questions when the time to get there is close but would really appreciate your help. Also looking forward to meet all of you very soon.
