Hi Everyone, I have been a offered a position in the Engineering section in Ras Tanura. I have family status but do not have accomodation. I guess I will take care of the housing after arriving.
I needded some advice regarding the following questions and would really appreciate any inputs/suggestions/advice as I am extremley confused right now.
1. Is it possible for me and my family to live in Dammam & I travel to Ras tanura everday. I guess Dammam is one of the bigger towns near RT. 2. What are my options to travel from Dammam to RT. 3. What are quality of schools and housing in Dammam. 4. Any other suggestions before moving to Dammam.
Thank you.
Regards, Zues.

If you are going to work in RT - just curious why would you want to live in Dammam?
Dammam is 1(+) hours away from RT. Yes, you could commute if you wanted to. You'd have to own a car and drive yourself or hire a private driver or taxi to take you everyday.
Are you a contractor that you will not live on RT compound?

Hi vpainter, Sorry for the delayed response.
I am a direct hire, but not been given accomadation in the compound. Is that normal?
I just figured that Dammam being a bigger city will have good quality schools, accomodation etc.
please correct me if I am wrong.
Thank you .
Regards, Zues.

I am a little puzzled by this. Do you mean that you have not been assigned a definite housing unit yet, or that you have been told definitively, that you will have to live off camp with your family?
Normally, if you are given family status that means you are enled to family camp accommodation. Otherwise if you are not enled to family camp housing, you would normally be given bachelor status and would have to apply for an NOC to be allowed to bring your family over.

Hi GroveWanderer, I have been given the following details:
Day off residence: off camp Work day residence: off camp Work schedule : N11, Regular 5/2 SAO Marital status: Family.
I concur from above that it is family status and without accomodation.
Regards, Zues.

I would read that as family status with off-camp accommodation. In fact, I heard (unoffically) just this week, that the company is now housing some new arrivals in compounds off-camp, due to the limited availability of on-camp housing.
Actually, now that I think about it, this has happened before. I remember a couple of decades back, they offered housing in Al-Khobar to some new arrivals when there was a shortage of housing in Dhahran. Although, as I recall at that time, it was a shortage of single accommodation and it was bachelors that were housed in an apartment complex down town. So in principle, they could do the same thing with families if required.
What I never heard of them doing, is allowing new hires to arrive with no accommodation being provided. Just think of the implications - that would mean letting a new hire, with (presumably) no knowledge of the local housing market, no iqama and no personal transport, arrive at the airport (possibly late at night, as that is when many flights arrive) and expecting that person to somehow immediately arrange housing by themselves.
That would be an almost totally impossible situation to put a new hire in. Clarify it with your recruiter, but I am fairly sure the company should provide you with accommodation even if it is off camp.
