Good Evening We are progressing along the relocation process. After much hard thought we have decided to not bring my wife's piano with us. She really loves to play and this will be missed. Does anyone have a piano for sale that may be rotating out. If so we would be interested in purchasing. If not is there any music stores that would carry piano's for sale in Dhahran.
Thanks Ben

There is a Yamaha store that carries upright and baby grand pianos in Al Rashid Mall. Once here you would be able to look at the classified board in the Al Majamma building to watch for pianos for sale.

Ben,
We are going through the same processs, i.e trying to decide whether we should ship our grand piano or buy one in Dhahran.
So curious to know why you decided not to ship the piano? Was it the cost, or the hassles, or risk of damages from handling & climate exposure?
Btw, how expensive is buying piano in Dhahran as compared to the U.S.? Are used ones also available?

Hi Revive We have a 5' 10 Kawai baby grand that my wife really loves. Our current residence is just outside of Denver it is a very dry climate along with 4 separate seasons. We decided to split our shipment allocation. So we will take (1) shipment and (1) cash-in-leiu. Baby Grands weight in the neighborhood of 800 #. Shipping is approx 2-2.5 / pound. Not to mention you will have to get special permission from the manager since the cost will be over 2,500 USD. Our decision to not bring our piano has to do with the acclimation of the piano in a new environment. Risk of shipping (it is shipped on it's side with the legs off) our relo agent in Houston basically said ,"It will get damaged" and lack of technicians to set up and tune. Basically it boiled down to just too much drama to ship the dang thing. We will store in our home in the basement, set up and covered.
Hope this helps
Ben

There is a excellent piano tuner through the Yamaha store. He comes regularly to tune our piano.
It is dry here, Joe (the tuner) says my piano is doing well because of all the house plants I have.
Prices for new pianos here will be about the same as in the U.S. There are occasionally pianos for sale, you have to watch for them, as people leave or their children are grown and no one plays it any longer.
