o everyone! I was extended an offer in Ras Tanura. My family is very excited. I am a big fisherman and looking to do some fishing with in SA. I know people surf fish but I don't have a lot of experience in this area. I would like to buy some equipment to take with me (rod, reel, lures etc...).
Can anyone give me some advice OR give me the contact info of someone who fishes over there?
Thanks everyone for the advice!

I've never fished here but I would imagine it would not be unlike the east coast or gulf. A fairly good sized spinning reel or a penn (only for the experienced as you can backlash the devil out of it but I prefer them) and a long heavy rod (surf rod we call it). I would personnally bring a bunch of bottom rigs and bring some lead and fish like that on the bottom in the surf catchign the tide coming in with cut bait.

Technically fishing is not permitted from the main beach areas. That being said, there are several people who fish down by the golf course, a few who fish in the middle beach area in front of their homes, and some who fish in 'no mans land' between the main beach and the yacht club. I swim a LOT, and I can tell you there are a LOT of fish out there. Unforunately there are also a lot of rock and other materials which would make bottom fishing very difficult. I have a feeling you would lose a lot of tackle that way. The waves here are minimal (similar to the Gulf of Mexico), so you really dont need a surf rod, but it does help with casting range. I wish I knew the names of the people who fish, but I dont offhand

Hi all, I was wondering if it is cheaper to bring the fishing rods from the states or it is cheaper to buy them over there. I love fishing too and would like to get a heads up.
Thanks,

I haven't bought the rods here, but several years ago I bought reels and they were nicely priced, cheaper than the U.S. at that time. Things have gone up here, so do not know if that still holds true.
