CanPeng:
We took two extra boxes at 50# for usd 200 each. It was worth it.
We were given an updated processing time of 15-16 days through customs here. That puts delivery out to the 14th, we hope. Will let you all know the score when our stuff arrives.

I attended my orientation today and for what it's worth my orientation staff stated that this is an issue being handled by the highest levels at SA and that we should not be worried. We should ship our belongings and if there are issues this will be handled by our relocation staff. If things are confiscated they will either be released or reimbursed.
hope this helps ease fears.

Thanks Longhorn5.
That's good news. I do hope they keep the shipping/packing companies in the loop as our Relocation Advisor told us that they (the packers) have been told not to accept 110 V appliances for shipment.

So we just got word from our relocation advisor that it looks like the situation is/has been resolved. He advised us that we should be okay to ship our appliances by sea which is great news . He did say that it is supposedly a temporary agreement and one that could change in the future.

I recommend you print out some labels for all your boxes and put your Name, Saudi Aramco, Badge number if you have it, and which compound you are going to. Place these on all your shipping boxes if your packer hasn't come yet or taken your boxes yet. I do this all the time so Customs knows the box is headed for Aramco. I put them on all sides of my shipment boxes when we first came. It may help with your 110V appliances that are in the shipment.
Sorry, I hadn't written it earlier for all those whose shipments have already left them.

Thanks Vpainter, Yes, we will be assigning the job of printing out, cutting and sticking the labels on boxes (as well as the individual appliances) to our daughter

Our stuff arrived yesterday. Looks like all is intact. 2 of the 8 van wood crates had been opened and gone through. The repack was extremely rough and we suffered a lot of damage as a result. Lots of other damage during shipping. Things we packed well traveled with no loss. Things packed by the movers were the ones broken. Ride herd on your movers and make sure it is done right. I was not able to micromanage all 3 at the same time and we paid for it.
All in all, we will be fine for our extended stay. We know better for the trip home!

Thanks to all for this enlighten discussion. My concern is not the availability of 110-V power or shipping 110-V appliances. I am currently living in Kuwait and making a move to Dhahran. Nearly all the appliances that I have are 220-V (except for a stereo, food processor and a coffee maker where I use a power transformer from 220 to 110V). I read on other forums that there is only one power outlet that is 220-V in the Kitchen. This is not enough to power all the appliances that I have. Does this mean that I need to buy power transformers (110 to 220 V) for my existing 220-V appliances? Or is there another option short of buying new 110-V appliances.

I would bring your appliances, wait to see if you need transformers. Contact maintenance once you arrive and ask for more plugs if needed. Transformers are easily gotten here if they are needed.
