Does Aramco allow you to opt out of having your child vaccinated for school within the compound?

Based on the "Immunization Documentation" on the Saudi Aramco schools website, it appears they do not.
Extracts from the document as follows:

Our experience: In our home US state, Hep A is an optional vaccine. One of our kids didn't have it, and was required to get it at Aramco before starting school here. They did not consider it optional. It was "get the shot, or don't go to school."
On a related note directed toward newcomers, I wish our relocation specialist had told us that a TB test was required before kids started school. We would have done that with our home pediatrician in the States right before we left instead of dealing with back and forth medical errands without a car as new arrivals (and without SAMSO dependent registration in the system). It would have been far less stressful for the kids to have that done in the doctor's office they were familiar with. Same thing would have held true for that missing vaccine. If I'd known it wasn't optional here, I would have had it done along with TB test in the States to avoid the tears and kid drama -- not to mention getting stranded at the medical center with no taxi or bus to be had, in the August heat inferno. I wish I had asked for a list of required vaccines and tests for the kids ahead of time. When you're going through the contingency clearing process, however, you don't know what you don't know until you're in the midst of it later. We assumed that the extensive medical form and submission of vaccinations covered all the bases. Not so much. In fact, none of the kids' vaccination records ever made it into the system. Glad I had copies in a folder with me that first visit to SAMSO.

So for those in Hadia's position, who would like to have the list of all immunizations required, here it is:

Thank you, GW, for plugging in the details for the new families who are going through the relocation process now. I wish I'd had this list when we were going through it, to cross-check with our family's medical records. When our kids got the TB skin test at Aramco, they told us that we could have done it in the States before we left. The info in what you've posted about having the test done within the past 12 months sounds consistent with that.

Hi folks: We are currently going through BI and have completed the Forms for medical and schools. Is it mandatory to have the TB skin test done for children in order to be accepted by Aramco school and cleared for Aramco job? The reason I am asking, standard immunization program and medical covee in Canada does not include TB skin testing. In order to do testing in Canada, we are to pay charges to a travel clinic. Since the final outcome of a job at Aramco is unknown until all is clear, we'll be incurring out of pocket costs - not sure if ASC will cover. Any thoughts or advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

We were not advised that our kids needed a TB test before we left the States. It was done through the Aramco medical offices after we arrived, but prior to their first day of school.

Mac,
We had the same question. In the end, our family doctor did it in Canada without a charge (which we were more than happy to cover even if he didn't). The reason was that our daughter would not be allowed to start school until all the vaccinations were complete and the TB testing could take a number of days that would delay her entry. Also having to run around in a unfamiliar area without a car and me starting a new job was just another hassle that we didn't need to deal with. One option for you may be to delay it until you are sure the move will be made. I believe the test takes 72 hours so you should be able to squeeze it in before the actual move date. The risk is that the child fails the skin test and has to go for chest x-rays (as has been reported on other threads) which could complicate matters..

Great advice, gbhatia. You are right -- running around for a TB test back and forth with no car and limited time is indeed a hassle. We definitely would have done the TB test before leaving the US if our relocation advisor would have told us it was required.

Things have changed, great for all of you. We were required by Aramco to have the kids and us TB tested prior to coming and immediately after arrival, again all of us. Glad they realize now it is not necessary to do twice.

o to All, I will travel this month to KSA, I have two points which I need a clarification: 1 - The TB skin test, is it a must for children between 5 to 10 years old for enrollment Saudi Aramco school/preschool.
2 - Hepais A vaccine, could be done after arriving KSA within Aramco medical clinic ( for example in Rekah medical clininc), since they did not have this vaccine in Canada.
Thank you
Youcef

Students entering Saudi Aramco Schools for the first time, at kindergarten through 9th grade, will need a current TB skin test. Current is defined as within the twelve months prior to enrollment. Older TB skin tests will not be accepted. The TB test is required regardless of BCG vaccine status.
Yes, you can get Hep A once here. Do not know if you can get vaccines in the Rakah clinic, but definitely in the DHA clinic.

I have completed the skin test for my two eldest children, they were not impressed, my 7 years old response in front of the nurse was "i will be so cranky with daddy if he doesn't get this job, because that means I would have had that needle for nothing!!" don't you just love what children say.
I have told the relocation adviser that I will wait until hubby has passed all contingency before they have the Hep A and Chicken pox, not sure they will forive him if it doesn't work out as planned! :?
we have been advised 4 yr old twins do not require TB check as they will go into K4

Along with final clearance, I received a confusing school acceptance notification for my 6 years old (1st grade). It states that vaccination record is incomplete. Then on page 2 it has list of all vaccinations and a statement saying something like "all of the following that are CHECKED are required - BUT - nothing is checked.
I wanna assume that nothing is required but from the immunization record (blue form) vs. the Aramco required list, I can see Hep A and TB skin tests are missing. Here's my question:
Getting appointment from our pediatrician is a nightmare and I'm already stressed out with things to do before I leave (early next month). Can I have skin test and Hep A vaccine done in Rakah or DHA once I'm there instead of getting them here. We arrive early next month so we'll have many many weeks before the school starts?
Can someone IM me the email of school nurse or whoever deals with immunization clearance (I'll also ask these to my relo advisor but I'm not sure I'll have much luck).

I need a little clarification here! I am expected to join Aramco in the next few months. I have been advised that due to acute shortage of housing In Camp, I'll be living off-camp. Subsequently, my children won't be able to attend Aramco Schools. On the other hand, I have been sent Immunization Requirements for the children to be admitted to Aramco Schools. So my question, do I need to comply with this immunization requirement even though my children shall not be enrolled there? My children are lacking in Hep-A vaccines. Thanks in advance!
