I found this forum a couple of days ago. What a great source of information! Thank you all,
I have been dreaming about working in Saudi Arabia for a while and finally applied for a civil engineer position yesterday (first time applicant). I have the following questions:
1) My experience has been in design of apartment complex and shopping centers in Texas (not in the oil business). Is it common for Aramco to hire professional with other work experience than in the oil business?
2) Except for my résumé and cover I did not upload any other documents (diplomas . ...). Anybody knows if I should have or they ask for the documents later in the process.
3) My wife is a Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Pracioner. She would love to follow me and work. If interviewed, does it increase or decrease my chances to tell them about her interest to work there.
Thanks again everybody for sharing your experience,

1) Aramco hires people who meet the qualifications they are looking for, so you never know.
2) Your diplomas will be asked for later in the hiring process and the verification process will be given then.
3) Your wife would not be able to work for Aramco, but she could work in a hospital in the local community if she chose to do so. (Aramco does not hire spouses who are RN's for whatever reason). She would apply for those jobs once she is living here. You as a family would have to work out whether or not she could get the same vacation time you receive. She'd need that in writing if she was assured she could take off when you do.

Aramco hires civil engineers to work in project management but they do seem to prefer people with oil industry experience.
There is a job for a civil engineer on the jobsataramco.com website right now, the basic requirement is: "BS in Engineering with seven years of related experience, preferably in the oil industry or similar process industry."
It's always worth applying though, you never know.

Definitely apply and yes they do hire CE's. Aramco has a lot going on these days around the Kingdom and not all projects are related directly to the oil industry.

I agree that you should apply. I was hired 2+ years ago by Project Management and I am a civil engineer/project management professional with all my experience in building construction, not oil/gas. Aramco is frequently asked by the Saudi government to manage projects on behalf of King Abdullah, such as KAUST, KAPSARC, Sports Complex and more. Good luck.

Thank you Aramco for taking the time to share your experience. This is obviously very valuable information for job seekers like me on the other side of globe. I have applied. We will see.

Much of the documents which had not been asked at the time of joining are generally asked any day after the joining. It happens in the construction industry. I myself, when allotted for the post, was asked for the degree/diploma after one month of joining. So, you'll never know!!!
