I'm finding it very hard to live with the smell coming from RT Refinery.. How do you guys cope with it? how long will it stay ? Today is exceptionally high and i don't know if my developing sore throat is connected to this? I have emptied 2 air freshener in my home today !

I don't live in RT now, but I did in the past, for several years and never noticed any particular smell coming from the refinery. Must be something relatively exceptional and hopefully, short-lived.

It has been a little worse this month then normal. I would suggest to get an air purifier from SACO. I know if it is really strong I feel a little sick. It can't be good for us! I stay inside as much as possible when there is any smell.
It shouldn't be like this normally. The wind has shifted a lot this month. I would say avee of two days a month I smell it.

LOL@Houston - not so. It's been raining and it's nice and fresh today.
@op: Not unless the people who work there are also coughing.
Otherwise the substance in the air that most triggers coughing is the dust.

Hi, just discovered this thread and really am a bit shocked…
I will be in KSA starting this summer, they offered me to choose between ABQ and RT for the first weeks/months before I should be finally transferred to DHA. Until now, I thought that RT sounded great being on the ocean and all that. But now that I read about the refinery smell… Can you tell me more about this? Is that smell there ALL THE TIME and in all areas of RT?

RT is on the Gulf, don't expect the ocean.
The smell is occasional. I have been to RT many times over the years and have not smelled the refinery smells. As Speedy says above, a couple of days a month. I have been fortunate I guess to miss those couple of days.
