This forum has been so invaluable to me. I don't know that I would have agreed to begin this journey with my husband if I didn't have all of your experiences to read about! So thank you for posting here!!! I do have some random questions.
1. Is charcoal readily available for grills, or is gas easier? 2. If we bring a fridge with an ice and water dispenser will they work there? 3. Are lunch meats available in the supermarkets? 4. For anyone who has shipped a car, can you tell me about how long it took for your car to get to you? 5. Are ceiling fans a necessity? I see that a lot of people suggest to bring them. 6. If a family member comes to visit you, can they travel with you to, say, Dubai or Bahrain?

1. both gas and charcoal are available, 2. Bring your fridge you will want it. They will hook up a sweet water line to it. 3. All lunch meats are available except pork ones. 4. don't know. 5. I would bring at least one ceiling fan although they can come back on a repat trip as well. 6. It depends if they get a five year multi entry visa or not.

1) Gas and charcoal are both available, but for gas you will have to modify your connection. The tanks in some areas dont fit the regulators sold with the grills so you must cut it off and clamp the hose to the a different size regulator.
2) Your fridge should work, and I agree, bring it.
3) DH seems to have most non pork lunch meats. RT i or miss, some times they have a selection, some times they have very very little. (there have been a lot of problems with the RT commissary).
4) We will probably be shipping a car this Spring, from what we've been told it takes about a month. That beings said, you will discover that time is a very arbitrary thing. Lets just say things tend to run at a more relaxed pace, and 'on time' is relative.
5) Aramco provides huge AC units, but if you like ceiling fans you can either bring them or buy them here in Saudi (though the selection is more limited)
6) Im not sure about the visa question, HR could answer all your questions on that issue.

True - and whether they get a 5-yr multiple visa depends on what nationality they are. US passport holders are enled to get the multiple visa, most other nationalities are not (UK passport holders for instance, can only get a single entry visa).
As I understand it, this is based on the principle of reciprocity. The US grants multiple entry visas to Saudis and so the same is true in reverse, whereas the UK and Saudi Arabia only grant single entry visas to each other's citizens.
