We are currently awaiting an offer from SA. We would be living in the RT compound. Here are a few questions we have regarding teens and school: 1. Our son will be going into 10th grade. We understand our options, and would more-than-likely choose to send him to Dharhan HS. He's wanting to know what time the bus leaves in the morning and when he would return to the compound. 2. We have a concern with safety after reading a November message from the Bureau of Consular Affairs regarding westerners being targeted by terrorists. This does not seem to scare people away - should it deter our decision to come to SA and send our son on a bus every morning to DHS? 3. Our daughter is wanting to know if she can take horse back riding lessons in RT. 4. Does anyone know the percentage of 10th-12th graders who choose to go to boarding school as opposed to DHS or Bahrain? 5. Any other advise on how to choose which high school option to consider? Thanks so much!!

First the Aramco buses run every day between camps. The Aramco bus going to DHS runs every day also. Sorry, I do not know what time it would leave RT, but early.
The warnings have been being issued forever. You should always stay diligently observant of your surroundings just as you would if you were in any major city in the world.
Yes there are horseback riding lessons in RT. You will have to join the Equestrian Group to ride.
I can only answer for the Dhahran Jr. High, about 1/3 of the students choose to attend DHS. The rest attend boarding schools throughout the world.
Each family must decide what is best for their family with regards to high school for their children. Some want their kids at home, DHS is a college preparatory high school, and others want to send their kids to a boarding school. This is a decision only you can make as a family.

In regards to Horseback riding lessons on RT, you do not need to own a horse, or have special permission from a horse owning member to take lessons. It's a bit different on RT. There is a waiting list to take lessons, but it's usually not for long with the kids changing up their activities constantly. Just contact the Instructor when you arrive for more details.

If things still hold true from last year they run 2 buses to Dhahran High school. One around 5 or 5:30 am to get those students who need to be at school early for an activity or event then another one around 6 or 6:30 am for the start of the school day. On the return they do the same thing as running 2 buses one that leave right after school and one that leaves later so those students involved in sports or extra circular activities. I think the 1st bus returns to RT around 4:30 & the second around 5:30pm. The avee bus ride for the student is about 45 minutes each way. My son had friends that went there last year- that's why I'm not sure if they still run 2 buses as it depends on the number of students they have going. Most of the student from RT middle school tend to choose boarding schools(75% boarding & 25% Dhahran or Bahrain) but I feel that's because it's the mindset here since Dhahran High wasn't an option years ago.
Bahrain is a different situation as the student board over there during the week & then have the option to come home on the weekends vis a bus.
Your son would probably be OK attending DH as he wouldn't have had the influence of friends here at RT all going away to boarding school & him be the "only" one left behind to attend DH (that's what we ran into with our son-we had planned on him attending DH but after a year & half of attending RT middle & all his friends going out to boarding he too decided to go back to the states for boarding school. It has worked out well for him & us.) I have a friend who came over with kids entering the 9th & 10th grade. The 10th grader went to DH and did well. Although there might not be that many kids here at RT that go to DH, they will meet kids from Dhahran camp. The older kids learn to use the bus system between camps to go & visit each other.
Hope that helps
