I'm flying on Nov 04(IA) and my destination will be Ras Tanura.
I heard that SA prefer Wednesday or Thursday for flying day; however my relocation adv is okay if I fly on Sunday from Calgary to Dammam. Is this true that orientation is held only on Sundays and no other weekdays if so then what would happen with my orientation as I will arrive in kingdom on Monday, do I have to wait untill next Sunday for orientation? Please advise soonest as I have to book flight.
How about my wife's orientation about camp or kids schooling? Is there any school bus service for kids at RT?. Do we need to bring some basic food check baggage as we may not be familiar with shops around? How about milk for my little guy? Please answer soonest if you can. Thanks

School bus service is offered if you live 2 kilometers from the school. Kids inside that 2 KM limit either get taken to school, walk to school or ride their bicycles. If you want me to give your email to a friend in RT with kids, I will pass on your questions: email me: vpainter29@yahoo.comYou will be able to get to the commissary for food stuffs and some food will be placed in your home upon arrival. If there is something foodwise you'd really like to have when you arrive - bring it.

Unless RT is different than DH, I believe the distance from school to qualify for bus transportation for children to the Aramco schools is .75 km, not 2 km. Someone else could correct me if I'm wrong.

I have sent you PM with more details. Please let me know if once you get it.
I am located here is RT. Please contact me and I can take you to grocery store for the first few days. As I recall, every kid is picked up by the school bus in RT.
Orientation is probably on Sundays only and done in Dhahran. You should fly out any day that is convenient to you and your family. They will schedule you for that orientation eventually.

SuagarLand, I wish I could change my user name as"cheerful". Thanks for offering ride and greatly appreciated your help in this regard. I'll let you know sooner I arrive at RT on Nov 05 (IA). I think we could get good Jet Lag rest before attending orientation on Sat or sunday. I sent you pm. Thanks to those who replied my post

When my wife was a bus safety monitor (and again, this is in Dhahran but I think it would be the same in RT) she would pick up kids no matter how close they lived to school but usually (unless they had something particularly heavy or cumbersome to carry) those living close to the school would choose to walk. And as mentioned, some kids choose to ride their bikes to school which is an option from pretty much anywhere within camp.
She says she heard (but only verbally from another monitor) that they weren't supposed to pick up kids who lived too close to the school but nobody from the school ever told her that officially, it's not written in the "Bus Monitor Safety Procedures" that she was given and no-one from the school ever checked on this. As she pointed out, even a 500m walk can be quite burdensome, especially when you're carrying a bunch of heavy school books and/or bulky items such as musical instruments and it's over 45 deg C in the shade - which it can be at lunchtime in May, June and September.
