All;
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and knowledge. Can someone explain to me why things take so long if your le matches degrees that you possess? Is it just a queue in the KSA consulate in Houston?
I agree with Overland's statements that being relaxed is challenging when the situation is out of your control, especially when you feel like your life is on hold. But I also believe that it is going to work out for the best for all of us including our families.

Got a call from relocation advisor today. My BI and Visa medical have been cleared. He plans to submit my visa application on Monday, next week. Says that it would take a maximum of two weeks to get the visa

Hi there, Our passports were submitted to the Saudi Consulate just before the network issues, approximately August 23rd, and we have not had our visas issued. I am guessing it will be any day now but it is still a waiting game for now I must admit, it is quite a test of patience haha.

If you think you're done with practicing patience once the Visa and BI clears, you have to adjust that thought process. Been in Kingdom just over two weeks and each day something else presents itself as an opportunity to practice patience. The only think that doesn't happen slowly here is off-camp driving, and that is absolutely nuts. Everyone drives like their tail is on fire.

Speaking about off camp driving, once while i was on my way in my personal car to Aramco site while working with other MNC in KSA, i was being tailed by an SUV, i reached the camp, later in the day a western man came over to me during lunch and said "in my whole career i have rarely seen someone following the speed limit of this road, i.e 70Kmph, Keep up the good practise.." shaked hand with me and smiled his way back to his dining table...the man was irish...and iam not western...Not everyone in the east is insane...

KH78: Just out of curiosity, have you flat out asked your RA if you have passed the BI, Medical, etc? I did that right after my visa was turned down (first I knew that I was even in process for the visa). Turns out that I had passed both a month prior. Nobody bothered to call me with that information. Also of the understanding that they don't submit for visas prior to you passing at least the medical (necessary for the visa approval by the Saudi Gov't.) and the BI. But who am I to guess policy and when it changes!
STILL waiting to hear about that job le for Visa Attempt #2. 2 months and counting. Sabr and Insh!

o Overland,
I did ask my relo. about the BI, and her answer was... nothing came yet, wait. I wish I can contact SA directly to ask about this. Overland, you had your buddies in SA check on your BI, right? I had my medical and my kids' school cleared 3 months ago...
Sabr alright.... nothing else can be done.

KH: Yes...the same buddies that keep assigning me work! If it wasn't for them, I would be really lost in this process. Just wish they had a little pull with the Consulate. I am getting better at this waiting game, my wife is starting to squirm a bit.
Sabr!

Kilted_Highlander78:
Is there any way you can start your thesis work from here, at least some of the preliminary work? I am afraid you will loose a lot of time; it is a big gamble, despite it being a good opportunity. Have you thought of setting up telecommunicating alliance with the insutions or collaborating with Education City or there are other facilities in USA.
However, if you have a lot of time to complete your thesis and wait to see how this unfolds, it sounds like a great study of applied research and fun!
I also had the same information of Overland and Vpainter regarding the computer programs and how the visas are handled with ASC and consulate. In addition, note ASC (Houston office) is mostly responsible for relocation (including visa process), and not your department in Saudi Aramco.
Something different from other's postings, my relocation advisor did not submit my visa until the BI and Medical was passed, but BI and Medical took 2 or less weeks. Visa on the other hand, we are going on 5-6 months.

KH78 I applied for the job in 2009 and was finally interviewed in April 2012.
