o - im a single guy moving to KSA soon, will be living in dhahran. i was curious about socializing, whether its with couples or other singles, and have read a few threads on this topic, but all have been a bit vague. what goes on after work and on weekends? what kind of parties do people host - how do you hear about them - what is the atmosphere like? among singles, is there a big excess of single men over women? if you have 5 min to write any color, details on what socializing is like, specifically for singles, i would appreciate it. thanks.

I'm in the same boat. Just heard back on my visa being submitted Monday, Aug 27th and my advisor indicated a 2-3 week turnaround. Should be in country early-mid October. I'm anxious to hear more on the single life as well. Feel free to pm me if you want to share contact info, etc.

There are many opportunities for socializing in Dhahran! If you ever get stuck, post here and you will likely find some helpful advice - if you do have questions, feel free to PM me here and I will do what I can to help. It can be challenge arriving as a single male since a great deal of your first impression depends on the functional unit you join; the best approach is to try to seek out some contacts in advance or as early as possible to be sure you have all bases covered and are less likely to be left hanging.
It is also good to take advantages to meet as many people as possible, especially your neighbors. You will find many people are in similar situations, or were in the same position at one time.
A terrific first step upon arrival is to get on the Aramco intranet and look under Recreation at the various activities. Also get go to know what facilities are available to Aramcons - there is no excuse to be bored!

Good suggestion Derekg! I'll be sure to get in the loop as quick as possible - now just to get the visa stamped and...
Thanks again!

Also after you arrive go to the Al Majamma building (you will know where that is after arrival) and go to the Community Services office and ask for a list of the self-directed groups and a list of the exercise groups. This will show you what groups are around and a contact person for each group.
