Hi All,
I have received the relocation guide from my recruiter today. One matter of concern is regarding family visas.
The guide says that "Employees who are eligible for immediate family status are generally required to travel to Saudi Arabia on their own and have family members follow at a later stage as visas for family members are not usually issued by the Saudi Arabian Government at the time of the employee‟s initial hire. I wish to know if this is the case or are there exceptions where family joins with the employee?
If family joins at a later stage, then how much time it generally takes for them to join??

Hi Captain13,
Congrats on the offer. I was confused as well when I read that in the guide. I think it needs to be updated as now the Saudi Government does give family Visas to travel to saudi together first time provided family is allowed on the profession and Grade code. We had applied for it last month and our visas came back ok.
If Family needs to follow then you have to wait for your Iqama before you can apply for their Visas, which can be quick to not so quick. Time scales vary but I will not be able to give you that info as I am still waiting to go through that process.
Best of luck

I got visas for myself and my wife and child at the same time via ASC. We all flew together from Houston to Dammam. We did have the option to bring the family up to 90 days later.
On a related note, we landed a few days before Ramadan on July 15, 2012 and got my Iqama in two weeks. My family got their Iqamas a few days after mine. I have read other posts on the forum where it took many weeks to get the Iqama. I guess we were lucky, or they weren't that busy. The service and speed at Human Resources in the Midra building is excellent.

We just got here in the end of July (so it's in the middle of Ramadhan) and surprisingly our iqama is ready in just 3 days. My husband got his first and mine was about 2 days later
