Hi Apologies if there is other forums with this subject, I did ask on a previous topic but it was fairly old and I didn't have any response.
Sorry for all the questions I just wanted to do some research as i would love to work for Aramco in a secretary position. I am used to travelling and working abroad too and the job and lifestyle sounds great from what i've read on here.
I am a 34 year old male and although not a secretary as such, I have worked for the MOD for 12 years in HR/Admin doing general admin/PA type stuff/typing letters/reports/taking minutes/arranging travel/payroll etc. I don't have any formal qualifications except for an NVQ level 2 in administration. I was just wondering what type of courses Aramco made the people with no experience do, as I have searched online and am not really sure what would be suitable.
Also what are the time frames if you get a job offer would you be given a start date as my current job I would ned to work possibly 12 months notice, although I could probably get away with 10 months maybe less.
How often is the recruiting carried out, I have noticed Aramco will be at the office show in London in September and thought this may be a good event to attend?
Thanks in advance for all your help
Chris

Hi Chris,
I am sort of in the same position as you, don't know that my experience will be much help but .... I have been working as legal secretary for years and years. I learned typing and shorthand after leaving school but never used the shorthand, and typing has changed anyway thanks to PCs. I had applied to Aramco a few times before and had been invited for interview previously but for some reason I can't rememeber, didn't go (I don't have specific oil and gas experience although I had worked on major projects while at a big city law firm). Made a speculative application the other day through Aramco website and was contacted pretty swiftly by phone asking a few questions and then told I would hear more if selected for interview. Anyway, a couple of days after that I received an email saying there were recruiting for secs in administration. I was told to choose date for interview from a selection in September and confirm by email which I did and that's where we are - I wait. It is painful but I realised Ramadan does not finish until 18th August, then it will be Eid and I would imagine that makes things even slower than usual in KSA.
Anyway, I have no formal qualifications (whcih I told them during initial phone call) just born at a time when it was easier to learn on the job and was lucky enough to get some decent form on my CV. So don't be put off, give it a go, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I live a long way from London too but I believe they refund expenses and it's only a day out of your life and it might change everything. At least that's what I'm tryng to tell myself. I doubt I would have given this a second thought at 20 or even 30, but at this point in my life, I know what I have, I know what I'd like and this is probably the only way I can get it. There are, I am sure, negatives to working for SA, but ever had a 'negative' free job?!
If I were you I'd submit your application anyway, speculative or specific and see what comes back. At least unlike all the ridiculous employment agencies out there that promise everything and deliver nothing, SA recruiters actually do seem to read the CVs and at least respond - for good or bad. Good luck to you.

Hi thanks very much for your reply and it has given me hope i'm currently 11 months into my 12 months notice period for my work although I could probably leave earlier. I think I will apply, not sure if there are till vacancies, but nothing ventured nothing gained. Sorry for my late reply as I have not been checking the last few weeks as busy at work and hadn't got much response. Thanks again, and hope all ges well for you, Chris.
