First, I would like to thank you all for starting such an informative forum. We have been following (like twitter) this group since my interview and it became very effective.
Little info about me and family
We are planning to move from US (Midwest) to Dhahran in end of August. We completed most of the process and waiting for our visa approval. We are family of four -myself, wife, daughter (8) and very active toddler son (2). We are very excited to meet new friends and kids are excited too for travel in near future.
We have lots of questions in our mind and most of are answered through this forum. We are planning to ship our stuff, But still need some unknown info….
1. Thinking about bringing our French door fridge. Can we get a sweet water line hooked up to water dispenser? I know there is some restriction on sweet water. How most of the people drink? Will there be enough space to put a big fridge (26 cu ft).
2. We are planning to buy an expensive leather sofa/sectional (modern look) soon. Is this available in MIDAS. How are the cost compared to US. We are little hesitant to ship a brand new set. Any one has previous experience? Any damage on Shipping?
3. We love our food on grill and planning to buy a new weber (old one rusted) and ship it. Will they last (no rust in Dhahran humid weather) long? Or it is too hot most of the time to grill outside, So no use of weber most of the year. Are there fire/coal pit in picnic/other areas?
4. Does Aramco reimburse you for extra check in luggage?
5. Shall we buy celling fan here and ship or buy Dhahran?
6. Do we buy school supply here for 3 grade student before we come?
7. Any preferred airline you recommend (Lufthansa, emirates??)
