Simple question really, what if you've been taking some time off? And what if your last pay really doesnt have much bearing on your normal situation?
My example, I finished 2 contracts (just over 2 years, same company) working in Iraq. After that, my plan was to take a 6 month break in Phuket, Thailand, drinking fruity drinks on the beach and not worrying about incoming mortars and rockets. I did that, and now I've been looking to get back into the workplace for a few months... primarily trying to stay in the middle east (I've also worked in Kuwait & Qatar).
I was contacted and asked to interview in Houston soon, so I've been reading this forum for information and preparation purposes (great forum, btw!).
So I've been reading about the often requested last 2 paystubs... in my situation though, I haven't been working for 8 months. Will they still want them? I could probably call the old company and ask them for copies if need be, but really, what a guy makes for living & working in a warzone doesn't have much bearing on what he makes working in a nice, safe compound with pools and sports fields and golf courses, etc... I expect to take huge cut in pay, but of course the big offset will be in relative safety & healthier lifestyle.
I may be putting the cart before the horse here, as I haven't even interviewed yet, but I'm fairly confident in my background, skills and ability to do the job I was contacted about (which oddly, wasnt the job applied for, but it still in my field). Should I start asking for the old paycheck copies now or will I even need them?
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated...

Everything takes time. Just to save time if you are asked for them, I'd recommend you go ahead and ask for them. Then you'd have them if you needed them.

Got it. Much appreciated. Requested the checks via email... we'll see if I can make any progress that way before resorting to calling and begging. As I said, I havent worked there for 8 months and even then I didn't really work there, I worked in Baghdad. So, it's not like I had daily interaction with anyone in that office... an email every few months at most.
Hoping for the best...
