Hi all,
Been reading the forum for a couple of months now and got lots of valuable information from it. thought that I should come out of hiding an introduce ourselves.
We are a British family - 3 children: 10, 7, 3. We have just accepted the offer and background and medical checks are under way.
We will be based in Ras Tanura. Expected arrival date is sometime in September.
We have so many questions, things to get sorted in our heads over the coming months but it is an exciting time! I am sure I will have lots of things to ask once my head stops spinning!
Any tips, hints and advice on how to make the transition from the UK to Saudi would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome!
September should be a great time to arrive here in RT! It's still hot during early Sept, but late Sept starts to cool off. This is a great camp for kids, the streets are safe, there's plenty of parks, 2 pools, playgrounds, and of course the beach!
Any questions feel free to ask! In the meantime the best bet is just keep browsing as you may find a lot of your questions already answered. But there's quite a few RT residents active on these boards if you need further help.
Good luck!

With the ages of your kids that you have just mentioned, I think one of your main decisions is going to be where to send them to school. The company school in Ras Tanura follows a US-based curriculum. There is a British Grammar school just outside the Dhahran compound but it would be a long commute for the kids every day.
I have known many Brits here in Dhahran who chose to send their kids to the company school, even though the DBGS is nearby. They all seemed perfectly happy with the education their kids received.
Other Brits in Ras Tanura might want to chime in with their own observations, perhaps.

Thank you grovewanderer! That is the issue that is giving us the biggest concern at the moment.
Our 10 year old is pretty immature and likes her bed! So don't think such an early start on a school bus will suit her just yet. Think the plan is to enrol her in the Aramco school, see how it goes and then maybe in a couple of years when she is older, has matured a bit, we will look to send her to the British school.
Any other people's experience would be welcomed.
Thanks for your input again.

Hi,
We are from the UK and have two girls aged 10 & 4. Our eldest is just coming to the end of her 2nd year in RT Elementary and so far it has been great and she really enjoys it. The classes seem to be pushing her and they have some great activities and clubs going on all the time. There wasn't any real issue changing from UK to US curriculum and the best part of the schools in RT is that they are so multicultural and that brings benefits that you just cant get back home

Hi gareth,
I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that your daughter is happy and settled in the school there. It is such a dilemma for us, so it's really good to hear how it's been or you.
We do realise that there are going to be a lot of benefits from the children being in small classes as opposed to the classes of 30 they are in now!
Thanks again for your reply
