Hi there I just received my offer from Aramco. I am excited at the prospect of working for Aramco but at the same time am doing my due diligence by researching things about the job / community before we (wife and I) make that important decision...exciting times!
So far this website has helped us a lot. Thanks to all.
On a lighter note - I haven't heard anyone speak about the cinemas on the compounds: RT or Dhahran.
I will be posted at the RT compound...are the cinemas any good? Up to date movies etc? Wife and I like to watch movies from time to time.
Let me know. Thanks.

There are cinemas only in all four Aramco compounds: DHA, RT, ABQ, UDH
The movies are 6 months to a year old and sometimes/manytimes censored.
If you want to see new release, uncensored movie, you go to Bahrain.

Yeah, lots of living room cinemas, LOL. You might want to Google some of the expats' shared info about Slingbox, Netflix, VPNs and the like. There's been a lot of discussion in this forum about the issue of entertainment options by TV/computer.

Yeah, thanks all for the replies.
I've seen posts on VPNs etc, I guess half of the fun for us is actually going to a cinema to watch a movie on weekends...but now as we have two young kids, its more difficult to manage the time off to do that...also during the work week, after we both get home from work, look after the kids and get them to bed, we're too tired to sit and watch a whole movie/dvd at home ....I guess I was hoping the Aramco move to a community would make doing this a bit easier. Watching movies 6mths old isn't too bad I guess. That should work.

Not hard to take the kids and go to Bahrain on Thursday and watch a movie, shop a little, eat and head for home in the early afternoon to beat the traffic.

The current move in RT is Planet of the Apes (the new one). No, its not like the new US cinemas, but its something to do.
As was said, depending on what camp you're in Bahrain is your best option. For DH and RT its not a long trip, you can easily catch a meal and a movie and make it back in the same day. A lot of us just make it an over night trip though (especially those of us who miss real bacon!).

o
I would agree with Twofeets - go to Bahrain to take in a movie and have lunch etc the movie centre here in RT is dreadful - really bad - we tried ie once and walked out during a very bad movie no good at all - often it is not running and when it does not good movies at all - so we make do here with the latest DVD's and Bahrain.
I fail to understand why our movie theatre here on RT cannot promote up to date movies every day? anyone know the answer to this one? maybe due to cost like the golf course here they say they cannot afford to grass it and only play on sand??
We sure enjoyed playing golf in Scotland last week - wonderful courses there.
