To what extent are bank holidays and eid holidays observed? Does absolutely everything close down (supermarkets, malls, restaurants etc)? Are taxis still readily available during these times? I'm arriving on 23rd march and believe the following day is a bank holiday (correct me if I'm wrong) therefore I assume I'll be left to my own devices, so just wondering if I'll be able to get to the mall etc and put the day to some use?
Also, I've noticed that some airlines offer a coach shuttle service as part of a flight to take you from dammam airport to Bahrain. Would it be acceptable for a lone woman to board this bus or am I better off using taxis (I'd probably do this anyway). Also upon return to Bahrain airport would I need to have a pre booked taxi waiting for me or could I find one myself on arrival?
Thanks in advance,
TOWIU

Banks are closed on holidays. Supermarkets and some shops stay open, some shops close. The bank may be closed when you arrive, but the ATM's will be functioning.
Aramco shopping buses still run or you can take a taxi, they still work also.
We've used the airline shuttles twice. One time they brought us to Aramco because there were alot of us. The other time they took us to a place in Khobar and we had to find a taxi home. Since that time, we've went with scheduling our own taxi or private driver to take and pick us up. We carry their phone number and call and confirm our pickup.
If you tried to find a taxi once you arrive back, you'd have to find one with the ability to cross the border. Easier to schedule a taxi from Aramco to be there to pick you up.
If you are an Aramco new hire first time arrival, there will be someone from Aramco to meet you at the airport and pick you up and you should be flying into Dammam, not Bahrain. If no one has your name, go to the Aramco office in the Dammam Airport, they'll start your processing and get you to your residence in Aramco.

There are no "bank holidays" in Saudi Arabia. 24 March is a company holiday on which the banks on company facilities will normally be closed. Banks in the local community should be open as normal.
The only official holidays observed nation-wide are the two Eid holidays and the National Day. National Day is 23 September, the Eid holidays vary in accordance with the Hijra calendar.
