Has anybody heard of a recent restriction of visas being issued for US citizens attempting to enter Bahrain?

No, visas are issued on arrival at the airport for US passport holders. Nothing to do in advance.
Go to the embassy website and check out its information.

Hi Vpainter - yes I know that, been to Bahrain many times. Just read something on a news site that visas are going to be restricted now to US, UK and some others because of the recent troubles there. Asking because we are heading out there in a couple weeks, just wondered if anybody else had heard of this new restriction.

Even if they did, it would have to be temporary till after the Anniversary this weekend. They couldnt make it long term with the 5th fleet and so many US and Euro's living and working there.

We were there last week, midweek. Long wait at customs coming back into Kingdom, but no mentions or problems about visa. We just got our "Bahrain book" issued at AlFifa with no comment about visas. What's the link to that news article referenced?

What I meant about the 5th wasnt the navy itself, but family, visitors, movement in the kingdom off base...
And yeah, we were there last week too with no problems.

The Bahrian Interior Ministry announced the following yesterday:
"... new immigration rules that will mean people from dozens of countries will no longer be able to obtain visas on arrival.
The changes are being implemented in a bid to prevent violations and ensure equal treatment with countries that enforce strict entry rules on Bahrainis, said Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Visitors from the UK and 26 other European Union countries, as well as the US, Canada, Australia and Japan will be among those affected.
"The minister has ordered that the implementation of such procedures be completed following co-ordination with the relevant bodies," said a ministry statement."
You can read it online on the BNA or Gulf Daily News.

o
Let me get this right for I have sent the same question to my husband today and asked him to check this out with Aramco Government Affairs in the meantime so if I have got this right we fly out from Bahrain in March and then return to Bahrain end of March - we are from the UK so does that mean we can't get access into Bahrain on our way back to the Kingdom? I am confused??
I had thought that with us having our visas etc etc for the Kingdom that on arrival to Bahrain as we apply for the normal visa on arrival - as you can I am really confused with this one?
Thanks Carolina

Please post details as soon as more is known! This would definitely impact any decisions regarding Bahrain among other things. For example, would this visa requirement apply to causeway traffic or GCC residents (e.g. residence permit/Iqama holders)?

I called the Bahrain Embassy in the U.S. this morning. They said I'd get my visa at the airport as usual. Even the article said some people were getting through. With us having residency in KSA, I'm hoping there will be no problems. I'll be there day after tomorrow and will post if there were any problems.
