Thank you all for your contributions to this forum. They have given us lot of info and education in preparing to move. I do have a question that i hope somebody can help me with. We are a family of four;mom, dad and two kids, doing our purchases. My issue is i want to bring the king size bed i already have instead of buying a new bed.Can any body please tell me if there is enough space in the bed room to put my current bed.I do not want to bring anything that would not be useful and therefore become redundant. Please help me with this as well as any other insight you can give me about furnishing. Thanks.

Yes your master bedroom will have enough room for your king size bed.
There are several decisions people make about their furnishings. Some bring everything to furnish the type of home they will receive. Others bring a few pieces they want and buy the rest here. Others don't bring anything and buy everything here. And a very few people just keep the Aramco furniture that comes with the house and rent it after the 3 months.
If you tell me what Grade Code you are (you can PM if you'd like), I can send you info regarding homes in Dhahran you'd be eligible for. That would give you an idea of the size of home you'd receive, even if it's not exactly the one you get assigned.

Family with 2 children will be assigned a 3 BD townhouse or 3 BD Modular (which is a free standing home).
I sent you an email with floorplans, since they would not upload here.

Hi Vpainter, as a single guy, what do i need to bring with me? some people told me i can bring everything i want or nothing... just bring cash about 600$ US. is it true? or a guy need to bring stuff with him from his home country before his departure?

that's true. The $600 just gives you some cash, it can be changed to SR's at the bank inside the compound. If you have a U.S. bank account (you didn't say where you're coming from), UK banks also: bring your check book. You can write a check up to $2000USD/week for Saudi Riyals (check writing: 3.73 SR for $1 USD) at the bank inside compound. Should you need to buy a car - you can write a check for the amount needed, have your supervisor sign it and the bank will cash it as Saudi Riyals.
a single guy is given a furnished apt/townhouse for the length of his stay. Unlike families who start paying rent after 3 months, bachelor status gets the furniture as part of his housing.
So you can bring whatever makes you feel at home. Aramco living room furniture is sort of like the old "Cargo" furniture, if you ever saw that when it was popular.
The bed that Furniture Warehouse puts in your place, could be a twin, double or queen. If you don't like what you are given, you can call or go to Furniture Warehouse and request something different. They'll usually oblige if they have any in the warehouse. If you get a no the first time, just keep checking with them, you'll probably eventually get what you need/want.
There will be a small number of kitchen supplies: dishes, pans, pot, skillet, flatware, glasses, kitchen towels and dishs. No baking pans. No small appliances like toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, mixer, etc. Might want to bring yours, there is a small selection of these 110V appliances in the marketplace, but you'll get a better selection prior to coming.
There will be 1 set of sheets, a blanket and a pillow for your bed. There will be a bath towel, a washcloth, hand towel - usually at least one of those.
There'll be a dining room table and chairs. If you get an apt/townhouse with a study, you can request a desk from Furniture Warehouse - a bedside table, etc. (These are not always already in the home) If you need something, you can go look at their book and pick out what you'd like.
If you're on medication, bring about a 3 month supply to get you past the settling in process, that way you're not anxious about getting into the clinic for medications during that time.
Hope this helps! Welcome to Aramco!

I'm reading here that single status individuals get "furnished" accommodations. This is nice, but I shipped my own furniture. Is it just a simple matter of calling the compound warehouse and arranging for them to pick up their furniture so I can put my own in (when it arrives)?
Will the single status accommodation living room area be big enough to place the standard living room suite (e.g. sofa, love seat, and recliner?) I also shipped an entertainment center, coffee table, and two 6 foot bookcases.

Ship everything you think might make your life in KSA comfortable....at least thats what Im thinking.....comfortable lounge room set up, comfortable computer set up, bedroom and kitchen. Problem for me is the kitchen appliances.....as in Australia its 240vlt....so maybe i should shop online in the US and get all the items sent here to include in my shipment.
Id also like to ship a moped scooter or small motorbike to get around camp. (RT for me)

Maintenance is now installing 220V plugs (usually only one) in the kitchens if you request it. The stove is 220V, so adding an additional plug is not a problem. You might have to speak to a maintenance supervisor and explain your need to get it. More and more people have gotten them.
There is a very limited selection of small 110/120V kitchen appliances to be found in the local market.
You can ship a moped or scooter on your dime. There is a scooter store here in Khobar if you want to wait and get a scooter here. You'd have it a lot sooner than if you shipped one.

Bring as many small electric 110 v appliances as you can. In fact, I advise buying some new and shipping them in original manufacturer's packaging. You won't regret it, once you see limited selection of 110 stuff. Hey, you never know when you'll need a new sandwich press, electric shaver or curling iron, right? No telling when these things croak. Same thing for lamps, even the cheapie put-together kind in a box, good for kids' rooms or a dark corner. I wish I had bought ahead a couple brand new extras of my favorite coffeemaker and sent them in our sea shipment. My biggest regret, though, is not packing a BED for the master bedroom. So, yeah, I'd go for that king-size bed if I were you. I assume it's got some sort of frame that breaks down for moving up and down stairs? Pack the things you know and love from home and you won't regret it a bit. You can always sell it via the Aramco classifieds when you arrive.
