Friends, looking for advice, please. We just got a Garmin Nuvi 1310 from RadioShack in Jahrir Plaza. Does anyone know a trick for keeping it on English entirely? We selected "Middle East" as our location, and the default language seems to be Arabic. We were able to change the GPS's speaking voice to American English, but the menus, maps and everything are still Arabic. Not gonna be useful like this. We were told we could use it in either language, but it's not looking like that so far. Anyone else have one of these and figure out how to lock it in with English for everything, not just the speaking voice? :?

there is a Garmin store in Khobar. They can probably help you.
I know, where is it? Well, it's been too many years since I've been there, so hopefully someone else will be able to direct you. I want to say its down by the Coleman store, but I'm probably wrong.
Anyone been there recently and can give location?

The shop is called Darmoja. I need to check my GPS to see if I have it saved in my favourites. I think it's between the king khaled and bandar intersection but I will double confirm.

I have had this problem with my Nuvi too (kids playing!), all you need is a Arab colleague to help you. There is a language setting in the menus, but currently the menus on your device are prolly in Arabic, all it takes is someone who can read the menus in Arabic to select the right language option.

Dude, thanks. Actually, though, my husband is a native Arabic speaker. He can read the menus and enter in addresses, but the issue is that I won't be able to do so, only him, since I don't read Arabic. He's looked all around the menu, or so we think ;-) but if you know exactly where we can change the maps and menus to English, we'd appreciate your help. Maybe it's gonna be a non-issue, seeing as though anywhere I'd want to go, he'd be driving, LOL! Nonetheless, I'd like to be able to enter our address requests so he doesn't have to deal with that.

Thank you for this info. I think we'll try to stop by there over the Eid break, if they're open. It's frustrating to have paid so much for this little device and it's not helpful to us the way we were led to believe.

o
This is a message to our last posting - it is a satelite nagivation device so that you can stipulate your destination and it will navigate for you whether it be in Saudi Arabia or other countries - we would be lost without ours that is for sure and just for the record we bought ours in Bahrain and have no problem whether we are in UK, or driving through Spain or here - all in English - hope you all get it sorted out.
Also one has to be careful of cheap imported Chinese copies into Saudi Arabia that seemingly have caused numerous problems.
Kind Regards Carolina

How can I update my Garmin Nuvi GPS device? I bought it 3 years ago and it didn't have a decent Jubail map (only a few roads).

I updated our Garmin via the Garmin website. I was able to purchase and download the update so that's another option.

Has anyone seen the new Garmin KSA map updates? Are they worth the extra money (roads for Jubail, etc.)?
