Booky, I am glad you are on the forum. There has definitely been lacking any information for Aramcons moving to Jeddah. Thank you!

Thank you to you also, ridgeway, for your contributions to the forum. We've needed contributors from Jeddah and we appreciate you're participating on the forum.

Hi Booky, I am living in Houston, and has accepted Aramco's offer to Jeddah. They are trying to get me there on Feb 5, 2012. Is that possible? I haven't submitted security/med forms yet. Please advise
Thanks

If they want you here by then, it has happened before in that short period of time. But it may also take longer. No one can tell you how long it will take. But I do know it has happened that quickly before.

Kulodog, When you say "they are trying to", is that the date in the offer letter? Mind you, that date is very fluid. I also sent you a pm.

If they want you here, they certainly can work that fast. My husband interviewed in October and was on the plane here in December. So good luck to you!!

The date that was on our initial offer letter would have only provided for 8 weeks for us to have moved. That date was moved a couple of times, so it ended up being two months further than originally quoted to us. In other words, it was four months, start to finish from offer acceptance to stepping onto a plane. Yes, it's true about the slow then fast then slow aspect of the paperwork process. Couldn't get a straight answer from our relocation agent as the move date came and went, so we just did some mental calculations on our own to figure out the reality of when we'd be likely to travel. It was extremely frustrating -- couldn't even tell family and friends whether or not we'd be going away, since final contingencies weren't approved until the last minute. It was especially hard on the kids, trying to explain that we were likely moving, but there's a chance we might not if something falls through, please don't discuss with friends or neighbors. Now that we're here and dealing with a new set of timing issues as newly landed Aramcons, that initial part of the process seems like a lifetime ago. It's hard letting go of the control over the situation, but just stay on top of the details, keep copies of everything you send back to Houston, and don't be afraid to contact your relocation agent if you're getting antsy. This part of the process will be behind you before you know it.

We came in July of last year, and we didn't hear of any new arrivals in Jeddah until November. One family has come and I am aware of a few more that are "in process." However, all of them seem to be working at different locations doing different jobs. As it was said earlier, if they want you here quickly, they can make it happen quickly. Otherwise, just be patient. I, too, tired of telling people who asked "Are you moving or not?" that I really didn't know. We were very open with my employer (I am a teacher) because I didn't want to blindside them with a sudden decision. Family and friends were also made aware of the possibility pretty early on. Most of them couldn't believe we were making such a huge decision with such little information and feedback, but it has worked out. It will happen when it happens. Good luck!

Booky, Thanks for your response. Now I am kind of understand what you were talking about the process. The fact is: Offer @ 12/2011, Med Invest @ 2/2012, Background Invest. @ 3/2012, and next Orientation/Visa Med Test @ 4/9/2012. I think I won't be there until June....^_^ What airlines do they use for flying out of Houston? How long does it take from VISA approval to moving out of Houston? I am planning to take a international vacation after I got Saudi VISA, but can't book the vacation due to uncertain time frame situation. Any suggestion?
Thanks for your help Kulodog

Of course the answer is it varies by person, but mostly once you've received your visa it is a matter of days to heading out, unless you arrange it with your relocation agent first. Because once you're on the plane to Aramco, you don't stop because your time to start work starts when you get on the plane.

When you receive your visa, it is a 90 day visa. The plan is to get you there within that timescale. I took a vacation in that period, you just need to arrange posting your passport back and forward by DHL or similar. Most relocation agents are very understanding, you just need to discuss with them. I had a 3 month notice period to work, done 2 1/2 then came out here.
Aramco would like you here as soon as possible when you receive your visa but they are understanding of the time that the process takes.
Cheers Buster

I'm not sure if Aramco is still doing this (they took out the signing bonus about 3 years ago I believe) but my friend who left his job 24 hours after receiving the visa from Aramco was given an extra bonus on his first salary. Apparently Aramco gives special bonus if you arrive within 30 days after the visa was issued. I served my 3 months notice and didn't get the bonus (My hire date was the same as my friend). Another friend who came within 30 days also received the same bonus.
Again, I'm not sure if Aramco still have this policy. It's not written or in fact we were not even told about it by our advisers. The funny thing was my friend's face when he saw his bank statement on the ATM ..... priceless.
