That's the Saudi law no exceptions to that, and it is quite common as well in other countries such as the UK, US and Europe if you are on a working visa...

Hi Great forum has been very helpful over the last weeks and months. Wondered if anyone has heard of an, or has an exemption to the 180 days rule requiring spouse to stay in country? Is it something that can be exempt? I am a female and have accepted a role. I want to relocate my children but my spouse can’t necessarily commit to the 180 days for various reasons. Any advice/experience will be appreciated. Thanks so much. It does happen but it’s rare, it has to be something like a very sick child that has to receive treatment at home. Without them in country you lose family status. That’s repat money, family iqamas, family home, health insurance and education.

It’s the spouse that matters for this, not the children.

Law says you have to have specific job les to have family status and be able to sponsor. The company sets how many days spouses have to be here to claim the benefits.

That was my understanding that it is internal. Thank you 🙏 Welcome. And just to heads up. If children go to school on camp they come home for lunch, there is no wraparound care/holiday clubs and hiring a ft live in help can be difficult unless you satisfy company rules, 2 plus children, both parents working etc. It’s not the easiest to do solo, if you did manage to get a pass.

The 180 days is company policy not law. Other firms don’t have this kind of restriction on spouses. It was suspended during covid. The whole premise is based on the stay at home wife and is quickly becoming out of date with new KSA iqama policy for women expats as “head of household”.
