It's standard to fly Thursday so far as I know. You will be met at the airport by someone from your department and taken to your allocated home on camp. You should also be given a new hire pack with all the information you need to get started.
There will be a welcome pack in the house of basic foodstuffs, crockery, cooking utensils and (very) basic furniture etc so you should head for commissary after you have woken up next day.
Try to get a data + calls prepay sim from the airport when you arrive as you can only have 1 SIM till you get your Iqama.

My husband flew on a Monday. You’ll have your buddy’s number and for maintenance, problems with the house, the help number is open 24 hours and for emergencies like electricity, AC, water, they will be out immediately. If there is something fundamentally wrong with the house, they do always have a back up house ready to go.

How small are the kids? I know there can be issues with cribs.

When you say early, you want to be having your onboarding (day 3 or 4 weekdays) by the 10th at the latest if you want a chance of getting paid that month.
