This has probably been discussed but I've not seen much info - What are the recommendations for shipping (non-furnure) - is it purchasing extra luggage on the first flight & family flights or some form of air-freight option - can anyone recommend a suitable company that can do an airfreight box of some sort and advise on lessons learnt?

Multiple removal companies will do international air-freight. Just need to ask them to provide the quote first. IMO, better to pick the company which has local branch in your area. My rough estimate: Scotland - Dhahran, 600kg/ 30boxes will cost around £5000-£7000 for air-freight service. So do your math (extra luggage vs. sea-freight vs. air-freight, etc).

Unless you are bringing a lot of goods, you should be $ ahead paying for extra air freight and taking cash in liu for moving expenses. I recommend rubbermaid 20 galon action packer totes. They are durable and can be used for multiple trips. Extra luggage is $200 per piece of luggage. I brought 10 pieces of luggage and was way ahead taking cash in liu.

Great idea. but I'm finding bringing in extra bags on the flight to be ridiculous - over €500 for 25kg! If anyone has any other solid ideas or there is a guide for air freight out there somewhere please shout up.

We came in with klm, cost £491 for 4 additional bags, 32kg each.
Air freight with shore porters was £3,200 for packing etc, 36 cubic ft.

Wow, that's a big difference- my quote was with Etihad - could I ask what year that was?

When I came over, 2 suitcases was enough. Likewise my wife and daughter when they followed.
I did keep the house on in the UK so all we brought was clothes and little odd things that are difficult to get grocery wise.
As to the ridiculous $$ for excess luggage - do Aramco not provide an allowance for that when you join?

Yes they provide something but that would also cover furniture purchases etc that I don't intend on bringing. I'm looking for the best option for shipping personal effects - clothes a few personal items etc. and trying to work out why Ethida is ludicrously expensive - KLM rates seem to be what I expected them to be across the board.

I’m travelling with Turkish Airline and for an extra 40kg it’s nearly £900! I have 40 kg included with my ticket but it seems prices have a shot up.
Rethinking what im bringing and what I can buy out there.

There really isn’t much you can’t buy, I wouldn’t bother with anything heavier than you’d wear for a U.K. early autumn, jeans and hoodies for winter.

I have a quote from Pickfords International for shipping from UK to KSA. I plan to get a second quote. Does anyone have any recent recommendations for shipping companies please?

Take the cash in lieu, ship nothing would be my advice - it's more than enough to furnish your home etc. Your moving to a country that has GDP roughly equal to the UK and pretty much everything you need is available.

What is the cash in lieu amount a function of? Country of origin / gc / payroll / no.of dependents?
