I found this forum fantastic. I worked mostly in the oil & gas industry in Calgary in the past 10 years and recently received an offer for a role in Dharan (finance related) and am still feeling unreal and not sure if I should make the move. My concern is around giving up everything including a career in Canada / US and settle in a country that I and my family have never set foot on. but also feeling excited to have this chance to explore the unknowns and living a different life. Wondering if there is anyone on this forum from Alberta or Canada in general, and what their experience / advice is. Any insight will help and be appreciated.

I am from Edmonton and we are in the same boat. Hoping to hear the experience of others. I am grateful for the opportunity but not so excited. A little bit nervous...

I am also from Calgary and have recently accepted an offer! You're right, exciting - but a lot of uncertainty. Would either of you be open to connecting directly outside of the forum?

Hi, I was interviewed for a position. Didn’t hear back from the HR. Contacted the team that interviewed me, they said I am the preferred candidate. The HR contacted me with the regret email. I contacted back the technical team (on LinkedIn), they said they selected me. I am not sure what’s happening. Is it because the Houston HR hasn’t received the update yet ? Did someone experience this before ? Thanks,

Believe me when I say there are a LOT of Calgarians and Albertans in Aramco. Lots of Canadians in son's school and especially in the high school, sometimes I get the feeling that there are, nowadays, more Calgarians than there are Americans in the American School Dhahran (the Academy, which used to be in the US Consulate in fact until this year when it's shifting to a new campus closer to the Aramco Half Moon beach). But takeaway - huge Calgarian community among Aramco expats. When you see someone from the States or Canada, you know they're probably moving from Calgary or Houston, the oil cities.

It’s normal to feel nervous about a new move especially of this magnitude. However, there are lots of positive vibes about Aramco, Dhahran and Saudi Arabia. Due to the geographic location of KSA, you have a fantastic of opportunity to explore travelling to various beautiful countries without breaking the bank. Calgarians are plentiful here 😊

From your experience, is there significant difference between the Calgary way of working against the Aramco working culture ? or are they by and large the same or similar ?

Aramco is many ways like working for a government eny, prob because it is mostly owned by the Saudi govt. It can very bureaucratic and move very slow in decisions and actions due to its size and being a quasi-governmental eny, which can be very frustrating at times. They hire expats for their expertise to help prop up the Saudi management/leadership but don’t expect to become managers or leaders yourselves at Aramco. That’s mostly set aside for Saudi Nationals. The working hours are 7 to 4 for the professional staff in your typical cubicle office environment. Then of course engineers and other technical staff working at the refineries and upstream operations hours and work environments will vary.

o All,
I am from Alberta and have received an offer. Has anyone had luck with negotiations ? If you can share your experiences that will be great. Feel free to PM me if you feel necessary.
Thanks
