Expats at Aramco can only have 2 vehicles registered under their name at any time for temp and /or perm stickers.
Otherwise, I believe expats can have up to 10 vehicles at any given time, however, only a maximum of 2 can have stickers.
Never remove the sticker on your own; that's a violation!
Also, expats cannot buy used/new pick up trucks, nor buy vans.
To have a brand new vehicle with more than 5 seats, you must have a least 4 more dependents.
There are plenty of online portals and dealers selling used vehicles, so shop around.
If you do buy used, at the least, get a basic inspection done from Petromin or a pay the 250 to 500 riyal for a proper inspection.
Similar to CarProof in Canada/USA, there is a Saudi version called "Mojaz"; with the VIN and plate number, you pay per report on the Ajaz portal or via the app and instantly get the car history / report, including all recorded accidents. You can also purchase bulk report packages for multiple vehicles.
MVPI's expire every few years, and even though most people only renew when renewing the Istamara (registration), if you're caught with an expired MVPI or get into an accident with an expired MVPI, you get slapped with a 2000 riyal fine on the spot.
MVPI can only be done at one location in Dammam, and even at 7 AM on a Saay, there's already a few hundred cars lined up.
There are people who'll do it for you, as it can take 1/2 to full day.
The MVPI itself costs 75 riyal and people can charge up to 750 riyal to do it for you, so keep that in mind.
Most MVPI fails are because of wheel alignments, so save yourself the hassle and get basic maintenance done before you go.
Also, you cannot register nor insure a vehicle with an expired MVPI.
Finally, the best one stop shop for transfer and insurance is in Khobar, need Rashid Mall.
They do everything in less than an hour, and you simply go back the next day to pick up the plastic Istamara card.
You'll leave with paper insurance copy and paper Istamara, which yes, will take you over to Bahrain!
Also, regardless of basic or comprehensive insurance, you must always purchase third party insurance at the booth once in Bahrain.
Most places will offer you Bahrain covee, and this is usually for comprehensive, however, you must still take out third party.
