Good afternoon, I was wondering how likely it is nowadays (summer 2018) to be send straight to an Aramco compound on arrival. I was told by my recruiter forget it, everybody now has to go off-compound. However I read a lot in this forum that the company is building more housing, which takes longer than expected. So still hoping that the longer than expected might be over by now. :-) Grateful for some views on actual availability of aramco compound housing for fresh arrivals, or also via waiting list. How long would one have to wait if moving first into the local community? I am still not sure which one is more desirable for a family?
Thanks for your views. Talk soon.

Well that is odd Bluestar42. I have been told by my recruiter and current members of Aramco staff that no one has been placed in off-main camp accommodation during the whole of 2018. The reason for this is a whole heap of new housing on main camp. I have also been told that this is highly likely to continue to be the case for the whole of 2018 as a minimum. It may well have been the case that no one with my passport and proposed GC has been placed off camp...
Clearly I am not there yet so working from heresay - would be interesting to see what others say in response to this question (both recent starters and those in the process).

Very unlikely I would imagine - but if it happens probably for a short period only.
The HR manual has recently been changed to remove the element of rental assistance to anyone opting to live off camp.
In the last year or so RAA for off camp housing has gone from having no cap, (receipted) to being capped to a multiple of base salary. The latest HR manual has removed it altogether unless you live and work in an area with no Aramco housing.
In short, a lot of tightening of the purse strings by Aramco has taken place over the last year or two.

Sorry Bluestaff, I'm not sure what you mean is very unlikely - being placed on camp or getting RAA? If RAA is no longer in existence (which surprises me as my offer indicates that it is available at multiple of base salary) then presumably this makes on camp accommodation more likely. Would they really ask you to live off camp and not give you any assistance with housing?

I mean they would most likely offer on camp housing. RAA would only be offered if there was no on camp housing available at your time of hiring.
Even if off camp & RAA was offered at your time of hiring I would expect them to try to move you on camp at the first available opportunity. If nothing was available in Dhahran , then you could be given housing in RT or Abquaiq (there are busses which make the journey daily, many people commute).
To clarify the "off camp" element, there was a policy change in May that meant it is only available to either those already in receipt of it, or to those working in a location where there is no available Aramco housing.

Good day, thanks for breathing some fresh life into this thread. Good to hear that the new housing finally comes "on stream".

I've had confirmation that I will be on camp (main) - with an address! All contingencies passed & on my way in a few weeks.
