Fellow Canadians, if you're looking for a place close to main camp in Dhahran, it's called Gulf Homes Compound in Dammam. Less 10 minutes from main camp, Gulf Homes is a mixed studio 1, 2, 3 bedroom apt. units, with enclose parking, 24/7 security, co-ed pool, co-ed gym, co-ed restaurant and mini-store.
Yes, it's a coed and mixed compound and there are a lot of Aramcons here.
Even if you move and don't have a ride, someone can hook you up!
On that note:
1. Uber and Careem are cheap here, however, they can take you into Dhahran camp provided they have a license, documents, and minimum tint. I have taken Uber a few times before I was driving and was stopped at security b/c of limo tint. Also, Uber and Careem CANNOT pick you up inside main camp, unless the drive calls you on a landline, either at Munirah (if you set it up, which honestly no one does) or calls you on your office line.
2. Technically, with Iqama, you can drive on your Canadian license, provided you have International Driving Permit (IDP) from Canada, and willing to pay extra insurance with rental companies. It is possible as I've done this, although not recommended b/c it's a rip off.
3. I have posted some information in two threads that will come in handy for upcoming arrival, or even if you've arrived and are settling in.

Vpainter my husband has recently been given a job offer for aramco. I’m trying to get my head around it all. I like the look of Bisak school but I cannot find the compound. The one it refers to on the aramco brochure is Al-Bustan village but this isn’t in Al Khobar when I search for it. It’s in Ridyah. Do you know what the compound is? I ideally would like a compound with a reasonable amount of facilities with a British curriculum school either in the compLund or very close by. Any help would be appreciated. Sara village looks amazing but it has a big price tag that I’m not keen on paying.

BISAK school is next to Oasis Gardens compound. Do some research before moving in here. Many people are moving off. It is currently at about 25%occupancy, I believe.

Upon accepting an Aramco offer, we are researching compounds in the Dahran region and relocation options. We are originally from Calgary, but on assignment in Europe right now. We notice that many compounds are available, but not directly accessible from the Aramco provided website. Neither are the price and status. Vpainter: we appreciate if you share your info on compounds with us. Cheers.

Why the push to have people take out-of-camp accommodation? I've heard housing being built in the hills and some houses are empty elsewhere

Never heard of Al Bustan. Euro is great (maybe some bias there!) If we were to move, I'd look at Zamil, Rushaid, Canary, Dana/Nada. Nowhere can compare to Dhahran. There just isn't anywhere that size, and hence nowhere can offer the range of facilities and opportunities. Is it possible for Aramco people living outside Dharan camp to use the facilities there too? I understand you cannot use the school or hospital but was wondering about other things, e.g. sports activities and other groups or events.

It must depend on your package. We use the hospital - and most Aramcons in the community I know also use John Hopkins. We go up to camp and use the parks, attend events, library, restaurants. Fairly sure you can join most of the clubs and societies - I just cant be bothered with the trek back and forth when further constrained by school times!
That said, I'm pretty sure current new arrivals are being offered camp accomadation, so community living may well fade out anyway.
