Hi all
For future new movers the voltages are quite annoying as it effects what you decide to bring or have to sell last minute.
Please correct me if my understanding here is wrong on standard voltages:
Abqaiq/DHA: 110v Rakah: 110v (with 220v outlets in the kitchen) Dhahran Towers: 220v
Thanks!

All accommodation can have a set amount of 220v outlets installed .. Most accommodation is 110v until you request the 220v to be installed

In Dhahran, residents were offered the option of getting a limited number of 220V outlets installed in various rooms and as I understand it, all newly-refurbished accommodation will have some 220V outlets pre-installed.
I'm not sure about Abqaiq but I suspect it is the same.

Yes, DHA, RT, ABQ, UDH and Rakah are 110/120V, with added 220V plugs in various places in the houses. If the 220V plugs are not installed when you move in, you just call maintenance and have them installed.
Dhahran Tower is 220V.

Okay now is when I am starting to wonder what to bring and what not bring. We are coming from Canada so our stuff is 110v (unless it had adepter. DT and radium is both 220v if I not wrong, do I bring any of my kitchen appliances or sell them/discard them? Kitchen Aid, my dear juicer, food processor... etc. (the list could get long).

lucky10,
We've moved from Canada to other 220V countries before, and we brought all of those - a Kitchen-Aid, juicer, food processor, and even a slow-cooker. We also brought along a step-up transformer (good quality - not a cheap one) to use with them, and there were zero problems.

crazycatlady,
Can you advise where in Canada (Calgary) did you buy the step-up transformers? How big are those? I found a 1875 watt international converter set (CONAIR) with plugs (adapters) included at Canadian Tire for $25, not sure if that would work.
I am also planning to bring all my kitchen stuff.

You can buy transformers in SACO at Mall of Dhahran or any of their other locations.

dave74,
We bought ours from Glazier Electric in Calgary (a small one for kitchen gear, a medium-sized one for my son's 110V-only gaming systems, and a big one for our fitness equipment). It's nothing like the one that you linked to from Canadian Tire - that sort of more meant for smaller jobs, like using a hair dryer on a vacation. It's a (kind of expensive) heavy metal cube, but it was still small enough to sit on our kitchen counter and we'd plug things in as needed them. The staff that Glazier were very helpful with recommending what size of transformer best handles the job, also.
Many more electrical items are dual-voltage these days, so I wouldn't recommend going crazy with buying transformers before you depart. As the previous poster said, you can always source them locally if you discover a need.
