I'm looking for an Aramco employee currently living and working in Riyadh? My family and I recently accepted a position with Aramco as an HR Generalist working in Riyadh. I accepted in April and was notified last week that my Visa le cleared (about 30 days)! For obvious reasons, we have lots of questions since there are very few Aramco Expats working in Riyadh…at least I can't seem to find any? Last week at Aramco orientation the session had zero information on Riyadh, and that was a real heartbreaker for my wife. I think she is looking for someone…anyone…to reach out to on life in the Capital City. It sounds like we'll be living in the Villa Rosas private compound. Nice? Very few pics on line. And to boot, we have 3 kids under the age of 10. Yes, we're excited…and scared to death. Any information about compound life in Riyadh/schools/safety would be greatly appreciated.

It's funny we were in the same boat 8yrs ago, we lived in Riyadh for a year in Villa Rosa's compound. The compound is small compared to other compounds but has all amenities, preschool for kids on the compound. You will meet some of the nicest/ friendliest people from all over the world:) there are daily shopping buses/ coffee mornings to visit other compounds. House help are mostly women from the Philippines. We often think of Riyadh and how much we miss it!!!

***Update*** we'll be living in the new compound Al-Bustan Village (anyone currently living there? Been there?). It's new, and the American International School is now within the compound. My wife and I were very excited to hear this news. Looks like I'll be headed to Saudi around the second week in July. My recruiter said that in her 3 years with Aramco, my relocation/visa paperwork is a new record time…I'm trusting that's a positive sign!

I've been with Aramco for almost 4 years and I am an American expat living in Riyadh. I am in Arabian Homes compound. I am here as a bachelor, so I am not much help when it comes to schools - but if your assigned compound is right at the AIS, you are very lucky and this will likely provide you with as much or more help than anybody on this forum in respects to living as an expat in Riyadh. Reach out to the school.
Also, try to get a connection to the US Embassy here (a connection to an embassy employee is best) - there are some really fun social events that are "by invitation", or "by sponsorship only". Have your local congressman's office make an inquiry on your behalf. You can inquire at the AIS as well (again, probably the best place to inquire).
The weather here is much nicer in the summer than in Dhahran (IMHO) - still wickedly hot, but virtually zero humidity. Good luck.
