I understand that, on arrival, I can ask for a small number of 220v electricity outlets to be added. My question is, what form do these take?
I assume the existing 110v ones take a US style three-pin plug. But what about the 220v ones - are they also US style or are they two- or three-pin European (or even UK) style?

The 220V outlets that are standard here are the UK standard 3-prong plugs. These are the heavy plug with the integral fuse.

I had the 220V outlets installed in my house a couple of months ago and the outlets are not the UK style. They are a US style outlet (NEMA 6-20R, according to info found on Google) with one horizontal slot, one vertical slot, and a round pin slot. It is possible that something has changed since mine were installed, of course.

They put 4 220s in our house this week. They were the big 3 prong style you see in the stores here (no idea what they're called).

Twofeets,
Are the prongs of the plug they take circular or rectangular?
Thanks

I have an old 220V outlet in my kitchen that is the flat vertical and horizontal with one round prong. My friend just have 220V outlets put in her home, and they are the big 3 prong with the rectangular prongs.
You can easily find all the adapters in the world at SACO, so don't worry too much about the type of outlets.
I haven't seen any of the circular prong outlets in Aramco homes, but you do find them in Saudi Arabia, but most of those outlets also take the 2 flat prongs as well.

^^ Yeah, what UmmRiyam said... The 3 big flat plugs... Adapters (while cumbersome) are easy to find here. The hardest part is simply getting 220 in your house

Our recent conversion in Rakkah was to the old style perpendiculer flat pins and one round one. The commissary has the UK outlets, but no villas here do as far as I know.

It's like getting into a time machine I haven't seen those since my parents house was rewired and that was back in 1970!
