My husband has accepted his offer and we are now in the "what do we keep and what do we get rid of stage"....UGGHHH! I was just wondering what people in Rakah compounds are doing with bicycles or riding toys since there are no gaes? Is there ample stoe inside or are bicycles being left on back patios? With a family of five, it seems our inventory of riding toys has become quite large and my kids love their bicycles and scooters. We know that we want to take them along but am just wondering about where we will have room for them in the Rakah home (if that is where we end up)? Thanks in advance!

Many residents simply leave bicycles on the doorstep - there are no real security issues with this. There are a few options internally - maid's room, utility area (for smaller bikes) and entrance hall. I assume that you have a floor plan so can see what I am referring to.

For vpainter: Like many, I am in the 'holding pattern' for visa block, but expecting to go to Rakah in the next month or two. I vaguely recall seeing a post (but can't find it now), mentioning that you, or perhaps another moderator, could provide us with additional floor plans & pics (i.e. above & beyond what is on the Saudi Scenes website)? If so, could you please either send via email or PM? Also, I tried to send you a PM on this topic, but I think I'm not yet setup with those 'permissions', as I am fairly new to this? THANKS!!

Vpainter
can you email me the info on stoe for Rakah as well ( saabgs@yahoo)
When will they be able to confirm the house / number for shipment address and to be sure we got what they promised? we will be there in 6 weeks approx.
ALSO, if I want to send technical shipments say books etc. directly to the office, can they provide address to do this?
Regards

can you please email me the info on stoe for Rakah as well. My kiddos are 4 and 2 and I'm hoping dad can help teach our 4 year old to ride her bike. She's excited of the idea of getting a new bike as she has been getting hands-down bike from cousin.
I'm also thinking about an outdoor trampoline in the backyard. Is there space?
Thanks.

Belltex, sent you an email.
Eeyore14, sent you an email. Definitely will depend on the size of the trampoline.

For vpainter (or others that may know) - thank you for the Rakah brochure with floor plans, very helpful. However as I continue a gae cleanup project here, am also now wondering about available stoe space over there, as there are inevitably boxes/stuff that we want to take but don't use regularly (seasonal items, bikes, sporting equipment, etc.). I see a "utility room" on the floor plan, but was hoping to use that space for other than stoe (perhaps an office/study?). Is there room in the "service shaft" for any stoe? Or elsewhere?

You will not be able to use the utility room as a study. There are doors on three sides and white goods on the fourth. I am not sure how to describe it: the wall opposite the washer/drawer has large sliding doors which give access to under the stairs stoe, but it is not at full height. The bins were stored in there when we first arrived and I use it to store utility and cleaning gear (vacuum, mop etc).
We use the maid's room as a general dumping area for the sort of things you are describing. However, some people need to use this for live-in help or bedroom for large family.
Also the passageway by the front door has four alcove's each 150cm wide and about 50cm deep. A lot of Ikea stoe furniture fits this well (some wardrobe, Expedit units etc) and it is also cheap here to have made to measure furniture by a carpenter. Many residents use this for stoe and I know one who has it as a study area.
Also because the lounge is so big, it is common to divide the room up in some way so it is multi-functional. I hope that gives you some ideas, but I think that you will find you will be better waiting until you arrive. With the benefit of hindsight, I would bring as much as I could carry rather than thinking I could buy new once in Kingdom. Some things aren't available, and where they are, the range is small.

Thanks much, Maursh, this is a very helpful and detailed description, and gives me a better idea of what to bring and how to plan for space utilization. You mentioned a "maid's room", which I don't see on the brochure floorplan? Is that the same as the "utility room"?

Sorry, my bad.
In my post Utility Room = "Laundry" and Maid's Room = "Utility" (if I recall correctly from the plan since I no longer have it.)
So you could use the maid's room / utility as a study, however it is designed as a maid's bedroom with ensuite bathroom. We were going to use it as a study but in the end decided it was a bit clinical -only has one small slot window. There are two power points and a TV ariel point.
