New employee - wife to be - petrified of move
by angelz_in_flight » Fri Dec 27, 2013 3:59 am
Hi all,
Bare with me here…this might be a little long.
My partner has his mobilisation date - April 2014 - he currently works offshore so I am used to him being away for up to 3 weeks at a time.
We are due to get married in August 2014 - so for the time being he will be mobilising under 'single' status.
From what we can gather - he will be training in Germany for a while.
As he is going to a new plant - all of the information being fed back from the company is very limited.
As we have two young boys - who will be 4 and 5 in the summer of 2014. My question is - when will we see him - if he goes in April - will he be allowed any time off - is he allowed to coe back to the UK for a visit or are there tax implications.
When do I need to start looking into schools for the boys - we have been given an 'education allowance' - does this mean we can send them to a private school?
Im not sure on the exact compound we will be living in - but all we have been told is that we may possibly be living on the new compound that is opening in early 2015?
I know that we cannot visit him until we are married….but how long will it take for the visa application for the boys and I?
This forum has been great in answering some questions - but is there anyone out there that can help with the above?
Im panicking a little about this - up rooting my family and moving to a compound.
I'm blonde and blue eyed and I get hassled when I go to Egypt on holiday - do i HAVE to wear the dress/cover up when I leave the compound. How restricted am I going to be in what I can and can't do - i.e. shop/drive etc.
Im very independent and I'm so used to jumping in the car and driving to wherever I or the boys need to be - I know its going to be a whole lifestyle change and that I will have to cover up my arms and legs in certain circumstances.
Also, what is the stance on alcohol in the compounds - is it available or banned?
Religious holidays - do the schools close - can we come home to the UK for a visit during these holidays?
Will there be activities we can all do as a family - like visit restaurants/cinema/shopping etc
A woman's perspective would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
