Moving to Ras Tanura in December by Angharad » Wed Oct 30, 2013 1:39 pm
Hi My husband is already working and living in Ras Tanura, although being a teacher he is not based in the compound and is actually living in a trailer park in the town. He is currently working his 90 day probationary period and I will be joining him in December. As a woman in my 30's I would like to connect with other women in the area to discuss the change in culture, do's and don'ts, and just to make some connections and friends
I have many interests including arts and reading, going to the gym and I hope to join regular yoga classes in Ras when I arrive.
If anyone could get back to me with any advice or would like to chat I would be over the moon as I hope to make some good connections before my arrival in just over a month's time.
I look forward to hearing from you Angharad

I do not think you will find a yoga class in the local community. If you are issued an Aramco ID, you will be able to go to the RT compound and participate in their activities. If you do not get an Aramco ID, you will not be able to participate in compound activities. Have your husband check and see if you will get an Aramco ID. If it is yes, email me - vpainter29@yahoo.com and I will try to get you a contact in RT.

Thank you for the information. I will find out today from my husband, but I have a feeling as he is a contracted worker he will not have an ID. What is life like for women living outside of the compound? Is there much to do? Are there any groups etc? I would very much appreciate some advice on this so that I may prepare before I join. Thanks again, Angharad

Living in the compounds in the local community can be fun and manageable. We have friends who do not work for Aramco and some of their compounds have ladies groups, craft groups with craft shows, they have shopping buses from their compounds and the ladies go shopping together, couples get together and they go to Bahrain.
So a lot will depend on where you end up living.

o Angharad! I am also going to move to Ras Tanura in December to join my husband who has been working at ITC since September. He lives in a compound called Tamimi and there is nothing to do there for women. I would be absolutely glad to catch up and get involved in something nice, active and productive. You can contact me by my email daryacooke@gmail.comCheers, Dar'ya

Your husband should get his coworkers to introduce you to their wives. Once you are here, you and your husband may want to start asking coworkers and their families over for dinner in order to make contacts for you.
