Congrats....we are possibly on track for late September arrival also. So much left to do and so little time. If you dont mind telling us, where are you flying from? We will be departing from NYC. What airline are you taking and is it true that some airlines (which ones?) allow 3 suitcases weighing up to 70 lbs per person?
Thanks

We are flying United to Chicago, then to Germany, then into Dammam.
United lets you carry more then 2 carry on with 62" height limit and 70 lbs max weight.

We will be moving to Rakkah end of Sept as well. From Houston it is United to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt it is some airline called PrivatAir. Apparently, the plane is owned by PrivatAir and service is provided by Lufthansa. Weird thing is they fly a 737 for this route.
Hope to see our new neighbours soon!

Is this correct? 2 "carry-ons" allowed with 70 lbs? Seems very unlike airlines these days.

I think they meant 2 checked in bags worth 70 lbs for business class tickets.

Great to hear that more people have received their visas and are moving to Rakkah. Do most of you have children? Has anyone heard how many families are living their now? I would love to hear from you when you arrive. Any feedback is so helpful. We are still waiting for visas but anticipate that we will hear soon.

Hi,
We will be moving to Rakkah end of sept as well. Dont have tickets yet but I was told that it will be lufthansa.
Is it ok if I PM people on this thread, since we are all in the moving process at the same time, to discuss some packing issues? I have maybe 2 weeks to get everything done so I am really stressing!
Thanks.

So, is anyone really using the dish barrel boxes instead of suitcases? If so how is the experience so far? Also, is anyone use the space saver bags?

We use dish barrel boxes all the time. No problems on Lufthansia, AA, BA, KLM or Gulf.
We have friends who use the space saver bags and have not had any problems with customs.
Please note: using dish barrel boxes has not worked for people originating in Europe, at least that is what someone has said in the past. Please verify with the airline if you are originating in Europe.

Thank you Vpainter for your reply.
You and the others on the forum have been an immense help with this relocating process.
Thanks again!

sss,
I wondered about this too before we left. I found out that only Air Canada allows 3 suitcases. All other airlines allow 2 suitcases only (70lbs or 30kg each), plus 2 carry-ons (17 lbs or 8 kg each), plus 1 personal item.
We used Lufthansa departing from Houston. They actually kindly allowed us to check in our carry-ons, as well. That was a huge help for us.
