You can do a search on the forum for local moving companies in Canada that people have used.
I will also send you an email.

If shipping on one's own, how are taxes/customs handled? Does Aramco help with that at all? What is the process to retrieve your cargo once it's arrived in KSA?
I will not have 5,000 lbs of goods, but I may have over 500. Any shipping company recommendations out of Houston?
Thanks, k.

If you ship your things on your own, Aramco does not help pay any custom's fees.
Any shipping company in the U.S. that will ship to Dammam will work, then you have a company in KSA to accept your shipment and clear it through customs and bring it to your house.
We have used DHL International, Aramco had an arrangement with them in the past and we've used them several times for shipping things ourselves.

If you are planning on shipping anything to Saudi Arabia, your better open is to wait until you are settled here and have an iqama; without the iqama it is likely there will be problems with importing items on your own. There are options once you are in Kingdom, but coordination is necessary via either a trip back or someone handling arrangements for you. Large items are best sent via sea container, which can be variable for timing and subject to customs formalities at the Port of Dammam which would be daunting if you do not know the process.\
If you are shipping items as part of your arrival, that is easiest since you are provided a weight allocation and an e-Box; both of these are very handy. Should you do the cash-in-lieu, most items (except 110v) can be found here once you figure out here things are. Anything you are missing can be shipped when you do a first trip home or brought as extra luggage over a few trips if it is permissible on a passenger aircraft.
A word of caution is to carefully read what is allowed to be shipped and make sure you are compliant with the import laws of Saudi Arabia; failure to do so can have very negative consequences.
