Hi guys,
I have a couple of questions and any help or advice will be much appreciated.
1) Is it possible to take time off during probation period for something like to be with your wife during delivery. 2) What is the procedure to get your documents attested from the Saudi Embassy in Pakistan?

1) It sounds like the department is trying to help you but try to get it confirmed in writing. It is unusual to get any leave days during the probation period

Sounds to me like the department wants you as soon as possible and your as soon as possible is in August. Try to get your relocation agent to get you in contact with the manager for the department where you will be working. That way you will already have discussed the situation with him.

Ideally you should try to join them with a piece of mind for a successful and productive probation. If you choose to join them now with your family in UK, you'll might struggle to focus in your new role with you current family situation. If they really insist and there is a chance that they'll withdraw the offer, is there anyway you can have your baby delivered there. I heard that you can find some Nanny to take care of your wife while you'll be at work and of course you'll have your in laws support as well. I know it's pretty tough call.

Hi,
I am in similar situation where I have been asked to get my degree and marriage certificate verified, it only been asked yesterday. I am worried now as I am in UK and getting these things attested might take some time. I have been referred to one Travel Agent in Karachi by Aramco, not sure whether Aramco will reimburse the cost.
Now I need some help regarding this situation: 1. Do I need to send my original degree? 2. Do I need to get a letter from Aramco? 3. Is the travel agent officially working for Aramco, means whether I need to pay anything to the agent.
If anyone has experience with this situation, please let me know.

Hi Nadeem, getting your documents attested is indeed a tedious process. I can forward you the detailed email with instructions from Saudi Embassy which I received from the agent. However in summary:
You need to get your original certificates attested from your university, then HEC and then Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Once all of this is done, you will need to give the original certificates to the agent along with attested copies (from Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs) of following docs:
1- Letter addressed to Saudi Cultural Attache (requesting attestation) 2- Signed copy of employement agreement In addition to above, you will also need to send copies of your employment visa, passport and CNIC
All costs associated with this (attestation from HEC, Ministry of FA etc) is reimbursable. If I were you, I would just double check it with my relocation advisor.
Please let me know if you have any other questions as I have spent quite a bit of time getting info in this area.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
How long do you think the whole process takes, starting from the attestation from University.
Thanks again. Nadeem

Hi,
One more thing, do you know if the HEC office in Islamabad is the only place to get the degree attested, or can it be done in Karachi as well.
Regards Nadeem

Time depends on how quickly you can get all the pre-attestations completed. Add about a month for processing at Saudi Counslate. I will give the entire process at least 2-3 months.
The attestation process at HEC is online plus OCS. Check HEC website for more details.

Aramco requires car seats. There is a small selection available. If you want a particular one, I suggest you bring it with you.

You should be able to find a small selection of spices in the Ras Tanura commissary. There's also larger grocery stores in Khobar, which will have everything you need. I would suggest LuLu Hypermarket.
Regarding car seats, there is no law that I know of in Saudi Arabia requiring a car seat. You will see lots of children bouncing around cars and even sitting on their father's lap while he's driving. Aramco does want the kids in car seats because it's much safer. I am not sure at what age it's ok by Aramco to not use a car seat. I am going to continue using car seats then booster seats as long as possible. You can find car seats very easily here in Toys R Us, Mothercare, and Centerpoint. Mamas and Papas also carries car seats, but they're more expensive. There are also some various local shops that have car seats, but I would recommend buying from one of the bigger retailers and buying a well-known brand. Car seats do have expiration dates, so keep that in mind when buying a new car seat. It's also not recommended to buy used car seats, and if your car seat has been in an accident, then it should be replaced.
As far as I know, all airlines do allow you to bring a car seat free of charge for your infant or child. So, if you think it will be cheaper to buy from your home country, then do that.
Car seats are subsidized in the US, so they are much cheaper to buy there than in Saudi Arabia. I don't know if the prices in CA are similar to the US or not, but it's something to think about.
